About this book
1f, 2m / Dramatic Comedy / Interior Cabo San Lucas is a romantic comedy about two misfits and a postal employee who turn an apartment upside down while searching for love, courage and something to sell on Ebay. Two men break into a house and start grabbing everything they can. Little do they know that they're not alone. It seems that the owner, a young woman whose fiance just left her, has taking a fistful of sleeping pills with some booze and is trying to sleep away her troubles for good under a blanket on the couch. When she's discovered, she's so discombobulated that it takes her a while to figure out that she's being robbed. When she does discover it, she doesn't really care (she was just killing herself anyway). It turns out that while the one crook is a hardened criminal, the other is just a nice guy who happened to have a gun and who has been manipulated by the other one. The nice guy is horrified when he finds out that she's trying to kill herself. The bad guy takes off with the loot, but the good one stays behind and calls 911. In the midst of Grace's attempted suicide being thwarted by two house burglars, there are many comedic opportunities. And although funny, Cabo San Lucas has substance and truth that will make anyone feel for our human condition and frailty. "Those tired of playing second fiddle to the showier male roles might take a page from the author of this one act...who wrote a meaty starring role for herself...a great role for women, by a woman." - Jenelle Riley, Back Stage West "Cabo San Lucas also features its writer, Lisa Soland, in a lead role and Soland knows her comic strengths and plays to them. Her Grace, abandoned by her fiance as they were about to leave for a Cabo San Lucas honeymoon (and currently being burgled by two incompetents as she attempts to bid the world good-bye with an overdose of sleeping pills), is hilarious. Her progression as the pills begin to take effect is a small tour de force of physical comedy. Jeff Charlton, as nasty burglar Jack, displays both nice timing and effective menace, and Bill Lewis, as the hapless Guy, is appealing as the boy who burgles girl, boy saves girl, boy may get girl in the end. Director Linda L. Rand paces the play well and uses her actors' abilities effectively. The show's production values are simple but perfectly appropriate for this easy-to-like afternoon." - Janis Hashe, NoHo La News Magazine"

Great Book by a New and upcoming author

5/5 Lisa - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Cabo (Preston Rogers Book 1) (Kindle Edition) I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was very well written and suspenseful. The locations in the book called to mind many of the places I visited when vacationing in Cabo. Beautiful place and it was a great location for this book. Can't wait to read the sequel. I am reading another book by the author now. Barracuda. Just as good and suspenseful. This one is set in New Orleans which adds a little flavor to the storyline. Info Outdated....

3/5 Ms. Fibs (Astoria, NY) - See all my reviews This review is from: Moon Baja: Including Cabo San Lucas (Moon Handbooks) (Paperback) I am writing this from Mulege, BCS and a lot of the info the author has on this town appears to be outdated. A hotel and restaurant we were looking for has since gone out of business. Also author seems to interchange 'basic' with 'clean' rooms frequently. We had been to one budget motel based on her recommendation and although it was basic, having a prior guests' hair still in the shower drain when we checked in does not constitute it being clean. Also we ran across the street to a taco place we were told was open till 10 pm, and at 8pm the street was completely dark and closed. Would only use it as a general guide, and expect to do half of the things one can accomplish in the given itineraries--- there's just too much to do in Mexico. The suggested schedules pack way too much in a short time. The weather and Mexico is just too beautiful, you will usually want to stay another day at the beach or spend more time in one area. Lonely Planet

Forget about the violence along the border and get INTO Mexico

As far as the large encyclopedic guides are concerned, this is about as good as they get. Since the guide is essentially the same format as the previous edition, the question most potential readers will have is, what's new? Most noticeably, Lonely Planet has tweaked the content of the guide to focus more on the sights it believes potential travelers will want to see. As a result, we have more fleshed-out material for the pre-Columbian ruins and the colonial towns, and a proportional thinning of the material focussed on the Gulf and Pacific coast resorts, and northern Mexico in general. The Copper Canyon and northern Mexico still get only summary coverage, which I believe is a major shortcoming since this is, without question, a feature attraction. The planning devices at the front of the book have been revised too. There's a new "off the beaten track" section that makes some interesting suggestions. These sections in general, together labeled... 4/5 Jon L Albee (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews, September 20, 2014

    Disappointed. Returned

2/5 Weilie Yi - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Lonely Planet Mexico (Travel Guide) (Paperback) Having bought and enjoyed multiple Lonely Planet guidebooks, I was disappointed by this one on Mexico. Purchased to support research for a family vacation, I found it to be poorly organized and misleading. We ended up leaving this book at home. After coming back from our trip, which was fun, I opened this book again and saw a great eco tourism park we loved and regarded as the highlight during the trip is only mentioned with one sentence. That place has over ten thousand reviews on Trip Advisor, more than any other place in the region I checked. I'm glad we didn't rely on this book to do our planning. So-so.

3/5 Amazon Customer - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Lonely Planet Mexico (Travel Guide) (Kindle Edition) Kindle maps too small to be functional. Info for less popular non-tourist stops is minimal, esp in terms of lodging. Good book for beginners. Not much value for the experienced traveler. Far less "street-level" traveler info than first issues which were better "budget" guides. Now the LP guides lean substantially more toward the upscale tourist class as opposed to those with limited budgets.
