This review is from: Moon Cozumel (Moon Handbooks) (Kindle Edition) It was not updated it had absolutely nothing of value in it. Still had Continental as one of the airlines flying there. You are much better off to go Cozumel Online and get current up to date information. Things change too fast in the world of travel. I picked this guide book be cause it had the latest publish date but I was wrong. Maybe some people would find it ok but not what I wanted or needed. It was written like they did not even like Mexico. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 28, 2014

This review is from: Cozumel Dive & Adventure Guide Franko Maps Waterproof Map (Map) We bought this map to take with us for a one day stop on Cozumel on a cruise. This was our second time there & we wanted to explore the island. The map was perfect for this. It was very detailed and made getting around the island very easy. Great map at a good price. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 25, 2007

0 5/5 Gabe Donzelli "Gabe Donzelli" (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Cozumel Dive & Adventure Guide Franko Maps Waterproof Map (Map) I found this map useful both figuring out where we had dived that day and what fish I saw. It also has a decent map of the town and a detailed map of the area immediately around the town.Given the way diving is run in Cozumel at large, a map is useful but not essential, since you are taken around by the dive operators. Most diving is done from a boat. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 17, 2011

An Embarrassment for the Lonely Planet Series

When I bought the book I was torn by the split rating of two 5s and two 1s. Now, that I used the book to travel Yucatan, I find the 1 star rating absolutely justified. Tons of information in the book are inaccurate. Some examples: The book tells you there is a visa fee if you arrive by air - there isn't. It tells you Chichen Itza closes at 5.30pm followed by a light show at 7 pm. It closes at 4.30pm and there is no light show. Many sights like the Muyil ruins (which was amazingly beautiful) are not even described, the information about the appreciation of credit cards and USD was wrong - almost nowhere you can pay with credit card and get ripped off if you pay with USD. It happens frequently that unspectacular sights are hyped in the description. The authors are way to often rating the sights instead of describing them. In addition the book is almost free of the typical Lonely Planet insider tips which make the other travel guides so valuable.Provided maps are vastly of no use,... 1/5 yJohnson - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) not up to the usual lonely planet standard

We have always devoured our LP guides for asia and hawaii and took them with us everywhere we went.I don't if its b/c of websites like trip advisor, but this new LP guide for Cancun is like reading a large tourist brochure you get for free, listings but no real info. For instance, the info on Tulum and mayan ruins had very little about the ruins. That is a major attraction and most people reading lonely planets are usually independent travelers so there should have been more info. What food is available on the beach and how long the walk is from the ruins to the beach areas? There are many restaurants, you just have to keep waling down the beach. This book was like the old Fodor's guides, but without the great pictures. A great read for the airplane to get you excited about the trip, but not really any practical info.Don't buy this guide if plan on using it for specific info when you travel, but use it to help you frame your travel... 1/5 Skater (Oregon) - See all my reviews This review is from: Lonely Planet Cancun, Cozumel & the Yucatan (Travel Guide) (Paperback) We have always devoured our LP guides for asia and hawaii and took them with us everywhere we went.I don't if its b/c of websites like trip advisor, but this new LP guide for Cancun is like reading a large tourist brochure you get for free, listings but no real info. For instance, the info on Tulum and mayan ruins had very little about the ruins. This review is from: Cozumel Reef Creatures Guide Franko Maps Laminated Fish Card 4"x6" (Map) The quality seems great and I'm glad it's waterproof. If I had one complaint it's that the small text on the card is printed in a color that isn't very contrasted to the background making it a little hard to read with my aging eyes. I'm sure it will be better in sunlight. I just ordered a second one for my kids. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 7, 2014

Nice reference card for Dive Logbook!

0 5/5 Sherlock (Southern Arizona) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Cozumel Dive Map & Reef Creatures Guide Franko Maps Laminated Fish Card (Map) Bought this laminated card as a reference guide (while diving) for an upcoming first dive trip to Cozumel. Also bought Franko's Map of the Island to plan dives and day trips with. There is not much island detail on the card. It is mostly devoted to listing the dive sites around the island on the east and west sides. The card is exactly what I wanted for my dive log book. Perfect size. It has a map of Cozumel Island on one side along with some of the sea life encountered around the island (with names) and all the dive sites. On the reverse side it has a very thorough list of sea life found in the different Cozumel dive sites. Recommend it; great reference card for Cozumel at a low price. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 29, 2014

I love Moon but not this time: use the internet instead

I have traveled a bit in Latin America and enjoy the Moon Handbook series for other destinations enough to make it my "go to" guide for traveling. I find that Moon (for Latin America, at least) straddles the line between the Lonely Planet guide (too many over-used hostels and once "hole in the walls" now tourist traps) and Frommers/Fodors (too sterotypical middle-aged tour taker). Moon has a good range of budget to luxury hotels, restaurants, and activities. I have successfully traveled to Mayan and Incan ruins as well using the Moon sections to tour these locations. We were traveling to the Playa del Carmen area in a rare all-inclusive vacation for us (since we had a toddler) and so I selected this book to help us. I didn't end up using it much because this highly-toured area is much easier managed with internet resources that are lacking for less-traveled Latin American destinations. For example, TripAdvisor is an excellent resource for finding tour... 3/5 GroundhogMom (PA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great guide. Good as an e-book, but probably better in print

0 4/5 Jean Armstrong - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moon Cancún & Cozumel: Including Playa del Carmen, Tulum & the Riviera Maya (Moon Handbooks) (Kindle Edition) Full of good info, seemed up to date during our recent trip, well organized. Solid info on using local transportation. I bout the e-book version and downloaded it to my smartphone. Technically the interface and the size of the screen made things a bit harder to find I think, but the biggest downfall was that the maps could not be enlarged (the text could be) which made them pretty much worthless, and I didn't realize that until I needed a map on the ground in Mexico. Also: it was nearly impossible to read the book on my phone in full sun, which made it less than useful at outdoor places (such as the ruins at Tulum). Good for planning at the hotel or in a restaurant. Next time I'll shlep the bigger, heavier paper version. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 13, 2014

I always order these Lonely Planet books months BEFORE my trip, not only to see if it is really where I want to go, but also as my guide when I am there! They contain, JUST ENOUGH INFORMATION, without overkill. Nice colorful photos, and the end section always makes you educated on the dangers in the ocean as well! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 5, 2008
