    don't waste your money

I was terribly disappointed in this 2006 tiny book on Cozumel. It was a waste of money. I can't believe that I just paid [...] for a travel book which I will throw in the trash after a 45 minute read. More current information is shown on my Can-Do travel guide map. And, yes, I did go to the website which was referred to in a previous review, to check out updates and changes. There I found only a few name changes for restaurants. In all fairness, I was not looking for a guide which listed only food sources, shopping and night life. That was 3/4 of this book's offerings. I wanted in depth information about places to visit of natural and ecological interest and historical interest. Specifically I wanted more information on Punta Sur Park in the south and Punta Molas in the north of the island. Nothing was found in this book. Also, in fairness, I had previously read some standard current travel guides on Cozumel, but hoped to get some in-depth information from this... 1/5 jmfdr (Elizabethtown, ky United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Cozumel Pocket Guide

This is a great guide and worth every penny! My family just got back from a Cozumel vacation Nov 21 - Nov 30, 2008 and found this guide to be a great planning asset. We didn't leave the hotel without it because it either fit into my shorts pocket or into my wife's purse. We used it everyday to help us plan our daily activities, as well as, our breakfast, lunch and dinner plans. The guide was published late in 2006 (after the hurricane) and is still very accurate, we only found 2 places that had either closed or changed names. The guide is presented as a "Best Of" list from everything from best dinning, best shopping, to the best beaches, and the descriptions are detailed and accurate. The guide never steered us wrong, we were happy with every recommendation. There is even an overall island map and a map of the downtown area to help you on your adventures. I wanted a travel guide that focused only on Cozumel and not the surrounding Yucatan/Playa Del Carmen/Cancun; this is... 5/5 Josey (Wisconsin USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This card is going to be a great reference while snorkeling in Cozumel.

This review is from: Cozumel Reef Creatures Guide Franko Maps Laminated Fish Card 4"x6" (Map) The quality seems great and I'm glad it's waterproof. If I had one complaint it's that the small text on the card is printed in a color that isn't very contrasted to the background making it a little hard to read with my aging eyes. I'm sure it will be better in sunlight. I just ordered a second one for my kids. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 7, 2014

This review is from: Cozumel Reef Creatures Guide Franko Maps Laminated Fish Card 4"x6" (Map) This little guide was nice to have for snorkeling in Cozumel. While it is not a conclusive guide, it had most of the fish and sea creatures we spotted while snorkeling in Cozumel. 5/5 Gabe Donzelli (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Cozumel Dive & Adventure Guide Franko Maps Waterproof Map (Map) I found this map useful both figuring out where we had dived that day and what fish I saw. It also has a decent map of the town and a detailed map of the area immediately around the town.Given the way diving is run in Cozumel at large, a map is useful but not essential, since you are taken around by the dive operators. Most diving is done from a boat. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 17, 2011

5/5 flyfisherman86 (NORTHFIELD, MN United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Cozumel Dive & Adventure Guide Franko Maps Waterproof Map (Map) I was worried I'd get an outdated map since the Amazon page says "Release date: March 1, 2007" but I'm happy to report the map I received was made in 2013. I think this map will be very useful on our upcoming trip. The quality seems great and I'm glad it's waterproof. Great Product - More Than 'Just a Map'

We have been to Cozumel several times, and have found places to hang out, eat, etc. by chance. We ordered this map because we want to identify new places to try when we visit again next month. My husband is kinda hard to please, and he LOVES this map already (we just got it today). We are enjoying reading the descriptions of places we're already familiar with (they are spot on accurate), and we are excited to try new places based on the details provided. We're already making a list, and we feel like we're going to get more out of our upcoming trip. Also, we love the fact that we actually received two maps - one large map that covers the whole island (plus sections of information about a variety of helpful topics), and another more compact map the focuses on restaurants and hotels, only. My husband especially appreciates the recommendations for good breakfast places, because he likes a good breakfast while I sleep in. He's already identified a couple close to our... 5/5 Lisa E Cowan - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Amazing customer service!

5/5 Amazon Customer - See all my reviews This review is from: Cozumel Map & Travel Guide (MapChick's Can-Do Map & Travel Guides) (Map) We ordered the map off of Laura's website because I needed it in less than a week. After placing the order on Saturday evening, she had it in the mail with a tracking number on Sunday and it made it to my house by Wednesday! We only spent one day in Cozumel, but since I had used her Isla Mujeres maps for multiple trips, I knew the Cozumel map would be equally good, and it was. First, we did the shopping district walking tour she outlines and got the essentials...vanilla and a few cheap tee shirts. Then, we went snorkeling with Albertos (wonderful!) and ate at Rock N Java...actually, I donated our map to their little library so hopefully, it falls into good hands for an even grander adventure. Our experience was that, as always, all of her recommendations were spot on and we made the most of our day on this beautiful paradise. Not Much in the book that is not in flyers all over the Island

3/5 Steve C. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Cozumel the Complete Guide II (Paperback) If you have never been to Cozumel it is somewhat useful. The Island is so small and most of the attractions are heavily marketed by the aggressive sales people at the airport, ferry dock and hotels/resorts. One thing to be careful of, if you rent a car or scooter to explore the island, is the police can spot rentals (and tourists) like a sore thumb and they do pull tourists over for no reason and try to bribe money out of you. A section on how to deal with the police when this happens would make the book priceless. $50 plus US money is the going rate for the police to let you go. Not all police are like this and even though we had to pay off the police I never felt unsafe...just pay and go. Great eBook! I highly recommend it for Cozaholics as well those who are planning a first time Cozumel trip.My wife and I have been diving in Cozumel for over 10 years spending a total of about a month a year there. I wish that I would have had access to the Cozumel Reef Guide for all of those years.Even after diving almost all of the sites in the Guide a number of times, it is so helpful to have a map of each site in front of you and your dive master prior to each dive. I dove with a DM many years ago in Cozumel who had reef maps and would always use them as part of his dive briefing to orient his group to the layout of the reef, how we were going to dive it, and what we might see in various places. Unfortunately he moved to another part of Mexico and other DMs normally don’t have maps of the reefs. Now I can bring this on my smart phone and use it with the DM to do much more detailed dive briefings. While I really like the maps in the Guide,... 5/5 ScubaDive (Maryland) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) The book barely mentions the amazing - and free

I echo what other reviewers said. We've just got back from Cancun, and the book repeatedly failed us with outdated information. It appears that Forod's did little else than changing the year on the cover from the last edition. A few concrete examples:1. The book says that Yucatan uses Central time. In fact, Yucatan is divided to 3 states, and one of them (Quintana Roo, the one containing Cancun and the Riviera Maya) moved to Eastern Time Zone in Feb 2015. This created a lot of confusion for us when we traveled across state lines.2. The book barely mentions the amazing - and free! - night show in Chichen Itza. It took us a lot of trial and error to find the details (online we found only misleading information, like it being closed or pricy or outdated.) In fact, the lightshow was completely redone for 2015, but requires a (free) reservation you can only book online. Your hotel can do it for you. Arrive the night before by 4-5pm, have them book it for you, be there by 6:30pm... 2/5 David Meiri (Cambridge, MA USA) - See all my reviews, December 25, 2015

I realize it's hard to keep up with the internet but my trip advisor review of my hotel had ten times as much useful info in two paragraphs as this book had in 200 pages. I'm pretty sure the author did all the research over the phone and probably never even visited Mexico.
