The Imagineering Field Guide to Disney's Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World

Creator: Imagineers, Alex Wright | 2007-05-22

Wright, a show designer for Walt Disney Imagineering in Orlando, points out subtle details and explains large concepts, back stories, and Imagineering insights in the third of a series of pocket-sized guides to the Disney parks.

About this book
The third in a series of pocket-sized paperbacks answers the question, “What would it be like to walk through Disney's Animal Kingdom Park with an Imagineer by your side?” The Imagineering Field Guide to Disney's Animal Kingdom provides that experience: pointing out details and telling stories, back stories, and Imagineering insights never before heard, condensed into a portable, easily-referenced park guide. You'll never spend time at Walt Disney World the same way again. Each spread contains fascinating textual information and related images (drawings, photos, graphics) such as:¨      Set-up, backgrounds, and origins of each park/land/mini-land¨      Concept art to compare to the finished show¨      Timeline information (opening dates, previous shows in the same venue,         alterations and updates)-      Photography of the details and big pictures being discussed ¨      Special props, design sources, artistic inspirations, nomenclature gags

Kingdom Keepers, Disney After Dark

Creator: Ridley Pearson | Technology & Engineering - 2010-11-29

Finn Whitman and his fellow DHIs, teenagers chosen to serve as actors for a new technology, investigate strange occurrences at Disney theme park attractions, racing to uncover a supernatural force that could destroy the world.

Publisher: Disney Hyperion

About this book
Featuring a new paperback cover to match hardcover of Kingdom Keepers II: In this fantastical thriller, five young teens tapped as models for theme park "guides" find themselves pitted against Disney villains and witches that threaten both the future of Walt Disney World and the stability of the world outside its walls. Using a cutting-edge technology called DHI--which stands for both Disney Host Interactive and Daylight Hologram Imaging--Finn Whitman, an Orlando teen, and four other kids are transformed into hologram projections that guide guests through the park. The new technology turns out, however, to have unexpected effects that are both thrilling and scary. Soon Finn finds himself transported in his DHI form into the Magic Kingdom at night. Is it real? Is he dreaming? Finn's confusion only increases when he encounters Wayne, an elderly Imagineer who tells him that the park is in grave danger. Led by the scheming witch, Maleficent, a mysterious group of characters called the Overtakers is plotting to destroy Disney's beloved realm, and maybe more. This gripping high-tech tale will thrill every kid who has ever dreamed of sneaking into Walt Disney World after hours and wondered what happens at night, when the park is closed.

A must have - great addition to the series!

0 5/5 Dan Record (New Hampshire) - See all my reviews This review is from: The Imagineering Field Guide to Disney's Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World (Paperback) As a Disney fanatic, I have found this series of books to be a wonderful treasure. The Animal Kingdom is a wonderful continuation of this series, and, in many ways, is the best one yet. The details of how the Animal Kingdom was conceived, developed, and built are completely fascinating! I can't wait to visit the park again and notice all of the details I have missed on past trips! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 13, 2007

Watched Blu-Ray version on a 37 inch 1080p Sharp Aquos using a Slim PlayStation 3.Purchased at $18.99.-1 Blu-Ray disc containing Disneyland Resorts: Behind the Scenes (51 min), Undiscovered Disney Parks (44 min), and Ultimate Walt Disney World (44 min) of both locations, and Extras-1 DVD with the same content as the Blu-Ray, and a Digital Copy. The Digital Copy included includes 3 .mp4 files (Disneyland Resorts: Behind the Scenes, Undiscovered Disney Parks, and Ultimate Walt Disney World) that you simply copy off the DVD yourself. There is no code to redeem through iTunes or Windows Media Player, but I did import them into the iTunes library.-Blu-Ray case is inside a cardboard slipcase. This version may not be as extensive as the 6-Disc DVD set which I have never seenPicture and sound quality was just fine for something like this.I'm reviewing this mostly from a content point of view.I have personally been to Disney... 5/5 P. Everything you might want to know about the Disney Parks..

Picked this set up today at one of the local stores. Thought I'd share some comments. The set consists of six DVDs, each in an individual thin case - which are stored in a cardboard sleeve. Most of the videos are "widescreen", but a few are "full screen" 1.33:1 ratio and they all lack close-captioning. These videos document what there is to do at the parks and attractions, with a lot of interviews of park employees and with actual customers. It does start to seem like a hour long commercial for Disney, but I guess that is expected given that it's a detailed look at a theme park and it's attractions.Listing of the discs;1) Walt Disney World Resort: Behind the Scenes. 52 minutes with two extra features; What's New in the Haunted Mansion & Stitch's Great Escape. Not sure just how long each of the extra features are - but they seem to be around 8~12 minutes. This DVD reminded me of the History Channel's documentary... 5/5 K. bluray vs dvd version

0 5/5 crow11ad (Texas) - See all my reviews This review is from: Disney Parks: The Secrets, Stories and Magic Behind the Scenes [Blu-ray plus DVD and Digital Copy] (Blu-ray) I plan on picking these up in the near future...Please keep in mind that the 6 pack dvd version contains more then the blu ray. Why? Don't know...you would think all of it would be on blu ray. Just keep in mind that if you buy the blu ray that you get the same movies on dvd + 3 more and all the extras. Since blu ray players will up convert, it might be a better deal to go with the dvd version. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 5, 2010

    Sorry to have to criticize

I enjoy books about Disney and normally don't judge them harshly. But people should be warned about this one. In just the first couple dozen pages, there are numerous items that are out of date. It's kind of sad that families will go searching for the old-fashioned phone in the General Store, will go to awaken Tinker Bell in the Fantasyland shop, will go to see Tink in the keyhole of the sewing table there, the wooden leg on the lost and found shelf at the Frontierland station -- when all of these features have been removed over a year ago. In addition to being outdated, the information is sometimes just wrong. For instance, it isn't true that "WDW imagineers could not dig a basement in Orlando as they did at Disneyland in California ..." There are no utilidors in Disneyland. (Walt was frustrated to see a cowboy walking through Tomorrowland on his way to work in Frontierland in Disneyland -- since there was no other way to cross the park. And the idea for the WDW... 1/5 A thoughtful purchaser - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Enjoy the parks even more!

As a long time Disney fan, I've devoted a lot of time to my Disney obsession, both on vacation and at home (so much so, that I met my wife on a Walt Disney World fan site). I've read so many Walt Disney World guide books that they all look alike to me anymore. The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World is not a Disney World guide book intended to teach you how to get around the parks and when the best time to ride Dumbo is. What this book does is point out a lot of the overlooked and hidden details about the park. Many of the details that the average guest may look right at, failing to understand what they're looking at or why it's there, and failing to appreciate the meaning of it as a result. This book points out the painstaking detail the imagineers design into the park in an attempt to maintain an authentic atmosphere, or to ensure you truly *feel* the emotions they want you to feel at that moment, thus, allowing you to truly experience the magic. This book is for those who have... 5/5 John Crissup - See all my reviews, June 9, 2009

    Poorly formatted, edited, and written.

Whether from shoddy research or a misguided attempt to preserve that Disney magic, a few too many of these so-called secrets amount to nothing more than vague instructions to listen or pay attention, often phrased with coy, cutesy questions like "get it?" "give up?" or "how many can you find?". Perhaps the appendix of answers in the back of the book could keep things spoiler-free; too bad only nine seemingly arbitrary clues (out of "over 600") were treated thus. The trivia and behind-the-scenes info might have been a saving grace, but are presented as random paragraphs and snippets buried randomly in the middle of chapters, sometimes interrupting pages that have little to do with the trivia provided. However, formatting errors and the increasingly grating chirpy writing style are the least of this book's problems. The sorry state of this book can be summed up and nicely bookended by just two examples: the first, not thirty pages in, when the reader is provided with a secret... 2/5 s.w - See all my reviews This review is from: The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World: Over 600 Secrets of the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom (Paperback) Whether from shoddy research or a misguided attempt to preserve that Disney magic, a few too many of these so-called secrets amount to nothing more than vague instructions to listen or pay attention, often phrased with coy, cutesy questions like "get it?" Extremely poor quality

The design of this mug looks great which is where the 1 star is going.. The quality of the mug is where it lost all it's other stars. My son loves Jack, but after about 2 days of use, I noticed he had these little black flakes on his hands and face. I couldn't quite figure out where they were coming from until the next day when I was washing this mug, I noticed the handle wasn't pure black anymore. Looking closely, the paint had all started breaking off which is where all those black flakes came from. This was disturbing as the mug is made in China and who knows what type of paint is used... more than likely it contains lead which my son could have ended up drinking! The bottom of the mug says microwave and dishwasher safe.. after going back and reading a few reviews here, this is unlikely the case. Even handwashing caused the paint to peel. Not sure how so many folks have been using this mug without issue for as long as they have, perhaps there are just a few bad... 1/5 Tweetie - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
