The #1 Go To Book for planning a Disney Vacation (and then some)

For those of us who have never been to Walt Disney World or have only been only once or twice, I cannot recommend a better book on the market. This book, and the accompanying website, touringplans.com, are the best sources of in-depth reviews, ratings and details of every aspect of WDW. From hotels/resorts to dining to rides and venues, this book HAS IT ALL IN ONE PLACE. The most important feature of this book, in my opinion, are the Touring Plans - which give you an idea of how to tour the parks in an efficient manner so that you spend less time in long lines and more time enjoying your vacation. Hit those headliner rides first and utilize the Fast Pass system. You'll be much happier and less stressed for it.I have purchased earlier editions of this book, but things change quickly at Walt Disney World and the 2013 edition has up-to-date information on the major changes to Fantasyland and everything else that has changed since our previous visit.Below is a... 5/5 Gitsy (Northeast USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) The Bible of all things Disney World

As a Disneyfied Florida mother of 2 Disneyfied boys (and wife to a more reluctant but willing Disney husband), I was very impressed with the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2013. We go to the Disney World parks at least once a year and sometimes two to three times a year. We have stayed at value resorts, moderate resorts, and a couple Deluxe resorts as well. We have been during summer, the days leading up to Christmas, spring break, Easter, and slower times like May or November. I subscribe to touringplans.com, read disboards.com, and check up on a couple Disney blogs regularly. Why do I tell you all this? To emphasize that someone that is as Disney-fanatic as me still learned some new things from this book.Really, this is the only book you need for Disney. It has it *all*. It is not biased towards Disney, so the authors give you a fair representation of Disney, both the positives and the negatives. With nearly 900 pages, here are the highlights:... 5/5 Mom to 2 boys (FL) - See all my reviews, October 2, 2012

Fantastic information for all types of WDW fans

I consider myself a Disney World expert. I've been to Disney several times (in fact, I'm on track to have been to Disney 4 times in 14 months), stayed at most levels of hotels (value, moderate, and deluxe), read Disney World forums, blogs, Facebook groups, work as a Disney travel specialist, and I even have a large and well-traveled Disney World food blog and a Disney World family/crafting blog. I honestly expected that this book would give me no new information, would be lacking any worthwhile info with regards to the new Fantasyland expansion and associated rides, and would only have real value for those who never go to Disney, have never been, like to micro-manage their Disney time, or those who're just generally clueless about the whole Disney experience. However, I was very surprised to find information that was completely up-to-date, offered surprisingly complete evaluations of the new Fantasyland and how to tour it, and even had a wealth of useful information I put to... 4/5 Jerusha "Scarlet Harlot" (New Hampshire) - See all my reviews, October 8, 2012

    Trip to disney

Can't complain- this book was free! We've been to Disney as a family once & plan on going again so we're still 'wet around the ears' as far as Disney goes. I did find this book helpful- its easy to read and not overwhelming like some other Disney books I've looked at- however it is short- its a good first book to look at- might help you narrow down some topics to do further research on. 5/5 K. What a great book!

I bought this book on a whim and wasn't sure what to expect. I've been to Disney once (several years ago) but thought I could use a `refresher course'. I've read a few other Disney books including another one by this author called . Since I really liked that one, I figured I check out this one too. (Plus I thought the cover was pretty neat.)This was a great book and fun to read! There's so much stuff in there, and most of it is very useful. I'm sure I wouldn't try out all the tips (some of them seemed like a bit of overkill) there were a lot great ideas I'm going to use on my next trip (200 days and counting!) Good for First Timers

This book was just okay for me. Other than technical camera and photo advice, there wasn't really anything new. However, if you've never been to Disney World before, this would probably be helpful for you. I did enjoy the introduction though, as I completely agree that Disney World really is the happiest place on Earth! 3/5 Amy W - See all my reviews This review is from: Disney Tips & Secrets: Unlocking the Magic of a Walt Disney World Vacation (Kindle Edition) This book was just okay for me. Helpful tips

This book has many tips in it for people who are planning to go to Disneyworld. As a newbie to planning a vacation there, I really appreciated the tips in this book. Most helpful is finding out that we can take our own food into the park to decrease the amount spent on food sold there. Also where to stand for the best views of the parade and about when to start waiting for it, which monorail to get on after the fireworks show to save time waiting in line, or which rides to make sure we get to. These little hints are what will make it less stressful and more enjoyable to be able to see everything we want to see. 5/5 Sharon - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) An excellent guide for your travels to DisneyWorld!

I have been fortunate to read a LOT of DisneyWorld (and Disneyland) books and guides over the years since I"ve been to WDW 15 times and Disneyland 7 times (oh, and 4 Disney Cruises). This book is a five star book because for rookies and veterans it is a helpful source in every regard. Good maps of the various parks with good information about various rides (who will/will not like the particular ride, etc...) and good information about the parks themselves and the various places to eat at Disney World. The book is an easy read and would be a guide you might take with you at the park (it's a bit large so you'd want to put it in a backpack, etc...on your adventures at WDW). This guide does not have very many pictures (only a few color photos in the back of the book), but the maps are excellent in the book and there are small pockets where you can put tickets, notes, etc...inside the book along with the ability to keep a diary in the book of your adventures with Mickey and all... 5/5 J. Great companion to the Hidden Magic of WDW Book

I purchased the Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World book when it was first published and was greatly impressed with it. Instead of telling me where I should run off to next to enjoy my WDW vacation, it instead showed me how to elevate my appreciation of the parks to a whole new level. As a result, when I speak with veteran WDW guests who believe they've seen it all, I frequently recommend the book to them as a way to take their visits to the next level. So, imagine my surprise when I happened to look on Amazon the other day and discovered that two of my very favorite WDW experts and authors had published a brand new planner. Without even being certain exactly what I was ordering (though certainly having a good idea), I immediately placed my order for the new planner and received it today. I haven't fully digested all the information in the new planner yet, it's simply too full of great information to help plan and remember my wonderful WDW vacations. While... 5/5 John Crissup - See all my reviews, March 15, 2012

Good place to start planning your trip

This planner gives a good overview of Disney World and is a great place to start planning your trip. But it is not complete enough to be used as your only source of information.PROSSpiral bound and very easy to useWould make a nice (though large) keepsakeCONSIt's large - not very convenient for carrying with you.The tips are good, but not comprehensive - you should supplement them with online sources. The best use of this planner would be to read it before your trip and take it with you, but leave it in the hotel. If you plan to write in it like a journal, do that when you're in your hotel room. It's just too big to lug around. Put your tickets and other items in the planner's pockets then too. 4/5 K. Great book, but zero stars on the kindle edition

I've bought several editions of this book over the years and it's really the best guidebook for Disney that there is. It's huge and covers everything you could imagine wanting to know. It's also witty and interesting and filled with tidbits of information that you didn't even think you needed to know.I had a 2010 edition and just wanted to check out some changes, so I downloaded the less-expensive Kindle edition for 2012. When I went to search for the specific information, I found the book had not been indexed. That means it's not searchable. For a book this size and for this type of content, it makes it practically unusable. If you want a read through and plan to make a lot of notes, I suppose the kindle edition could be a good choice. Filled with goodies!

I am a Disney World fanatic, and I've borrowed older versions of the Unofficial Guide from the library many times. I finally decided to buy the 2012 copy for myself since next May will be the first time I stay on Disney property. This is a heavy book; my wrist hurts after a while from holding it! But I love it anyway! The authors say that most people use this as a reference guide, but I'm the kind of weirdo that kind of reads it straight through (minus some of the info that doesn't apply to me). I like how they include the comments and opinions of readers in blue within the text. That way you get both sides of the picture. I have guide books and trivia books, but this is one that's filled with info about the parks with humor and lots of opinion included. If you just want a guide book telling you what rides are where, choose a different book. This has a lot more than that. 5/5 RachelNinja (New York) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Get this guide!

Ok, if you are going to go to Walt DisneyWorld, aka Epcot, aka The Magic Kingdom, etc, this book is simply a must-get. No questions asked, no debate. Get this book. Period. It is beyond exhaustively comprehensive. We are talking 800+ pages and quite thick and heavy. Ok, maybe you might just take out the quick guides or print off a page or two when actually at the parks. Being rather bulky is my only complaint. But it has to be, so...The authors say that following the plans in this guide will save you about 4 hours in line. We used the 2011 Unofficial guide during our 2011 visit, and even tho we went off on our own after the midday part (which the book actually OKs), it was a HUGE timesaver. Not to mention- one part of our party went off without the guide and got lost & confused and re-joined us admitting they had just wasted about 2 hours. So, even with our "let us stick with the tour plan until we get the must-see rides done, then go off on our own" it... 5/5 Wulfstan "wulfstan" (San Jose, CA United States) - See all my reviews, September 27, 2011

    Where There's a Wilk There's a Way

As a self proclaimed Disney addict I have read a lot of Disney guides and this is one of the best! It is written with unbiased advice on how to make the best of your Disney trip. Even if you are focused on Disney the book includes some nearby Orlando excursions that are worthwhile. The book is not only easy to read but entertaining as well, due to the author's conversational and often humorous style. It suggests not only the highlights but also gives advice about what to skip. He gives tips about how to navigate Disney Parks and Resorts with a larger family. I like how you get a sense that the rides were "family tested"- in other words he wrote not only through his perspective but through the eyes of his kids as well. Since we're planning our first trip to Disney, I thought it would be a good idea to read up on the parks. Not sure if we'll make it to all the parks, but we'll definitely go to Magic Kingdom! This book is a great guide to the park! It covers each of the lands and all the rides too. It's very well-written and organized to be very useful. I thought the maps and charts were VERY helpful- and that's something I haven't seen in other Disney eBooks. All the pictures are just the icing on the cake. They really got me excited about going to Disney. I can't wait!!! 5/5 Carolyn - See all my reviews This review is from: Keys to the Kingdom: Your Complete Guide to Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom Theme Park (Kindle Edition) Since we're planning our first trip to Disney, I thought it would be a good idea to read up on the parks.

    Review well done.

The Merola family really loves Disneyworld and it shows in this wonderfully written guide. We have just returned from Disney and I couldn't agree more with some of his tips for visiting the theme parks. I did my research, reading all the guides from Birnbaum,Sehlinger and Testa, before departing for Disney.I could have saved a lot of time and money by just following Merola's advice. 5/5 Robert S. It works!

We go to Disney during April break, which is the busiest time of year. If you want to see everything and not wait in long lines, you have to plan your day in the park carefully. This book was so helpful last year. I can't wait to use this new version for this year's trip! 5/5 Pen Name - See all my reviews This review is from: The Busy Family's Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2013 (Paperback) We go to Disney during April break, which is the busiest time of year.
