    A Disney must!

0 5/5 Katherine Kristan - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Birnbaum's 2015 Walt Disney World: The Official Guide (Birnbaum Guides) (Paperback) I am a total WDW addict and go every year. And yet no matter how many times I have been there, I can't do everything. That is why I buy a Birnbaum's every year. I actually read it cover to cover (yes I am a big geek) and always manage to learn something new, or find something new I want to try. It's not just about learning what is new this year, you get to learn all the little details you may have missed on previousl trips. There are events that I only learned about a year or two ago, and they have them several times a week. The Wishes dessert party was a great addition to one of my trips. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 27, 2014

I would recommend this book to anyone planning a Disney World or Cruise vacation. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 24, 2014

From approximate weather, crowd size, new exhibits/attractions...knowing which hotels are the most affordable and where they are located in location to your favorite Park(Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Downtown Disney). Best places to eat, where to find the best coffee, where to locate the characters for the kids to see....it just goes on and on. Should be called "The Indispensable Guide To Walt Disney World"

0 5/5 ej - See all my reviews This review is from: The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2015 (Paperback) Simply indispensable. Possibly the best investment I ever made was buying this book. It has allowed me to visit Walt Disney World six times without having to wait in line for anything, even during the busiest seasons. One spends thousands of dollars on a vacation, yet this book is what allowed me to truly enjoy it all without waiting in line. There is so much useful information in this book about a myriad of all-things Disney. And it's an entertaining read, so I even enjoyed sections that didn't pertain to what I was interested in (Disney cruises, for instance). It's even got info on Universal & other Florida theme parks. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 5, 2014

    A little disappointed

This is a nice book, but didn't meet my expectations or hopes. Should have looked at an older copy before preordering this one. We are planning our first trip to WDW with our 3 and 4 year old (not the target age, I know) and I was hoping for more photos from the park to prepare them for the things they'll actually see. Using the internet will be more helpful in this case. This book is filled with lots of colorful clip art of disney characters and a few very dated photos (not super helpful IMO). Most of he photos were taken during a staged photo shoot and don't show the characters in a way that my kids will actually see them there. Plus, it's already out of date, with going to press before WDW announced a decent amount of changes recently. That's not the authors fault, but still frustrating as the buyer. My kids are still enjoying it a little, because we are all so excited about going soon- who wouldn't be??Also,I ordered the adult one for me, and it has more photos in it... 4/5 SKJ - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) The Neals do an excellent job of following those changes

We travel to Walt Disney World (WDW) two or more times per year. I have been purchasing the updated version of this book every year since 2007. There are some parts that are not rewritten each year, but not everything there changes every year. That said, many aspects of WDW change in a blink. The Neals do an excellent job of following those changes.I look forward to the release date of this book. I had this one in hand two days after Amazon released it. Just in time for our next trip at the end of October 2014. There hasn't been a new edition in some time. Very grateful the Neals were able to make one available. This review is from: The Complete Walt Disney World 2015: The Definitive Disney Handbook (Paperback) Julie and Mike are back!!! This book just knocks it out of the park. I got mine yesterday and could not wait to dig in. I have been waiting 2 years for another edition of this amazing book. Each year the information in this book is updated and different so you are not reading the same thing over and over if you buy the 2008-2012 editions. The pictures are all updated too. So if you are a nerd and you love reading Disney Travel Guides every year...this is so refreshing because while the information given is accurate...it's always new. This is hands down by far the BEST guide out there. If you are new to Disney, or even if you are a "pro" this book is a must. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 8, 2014

    Sorry to have to criticize

I enjoy books about Disney and normally don't judge them harshly. But people should be warned about this one. In just the first couple dozen pages, there are numerous items that are out of date. It's kind of sad that families will go searching for the old-fashioned phone in the General Store, will go to awaken Tinker Bell in the Fantasyland shop, will go to see Tink in the keyhole of the sewing table there, the wooden leg on the lost and found shelf at the Frontierland station -- when all of these features have been removed over a year ago. In addition to being outdated, the information is sometimes just wrong. For instance, it isn't true that "WDW imagineers could not dig a basement in Orlando as they did at Disneyland in California ..." There are no utilidors in Disneyland. (Walt was frustrated to see a cowboy walking through Tomorrowland on his way to work in Frontierland in Disneyland -- since there was no other way to cross the park. And the idea for the WDW... 1/5 A thoughtful purchaser - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Enjoy the parks even more!

As a long time Disney fan, I've devoted a lot of time to my Disney obsession, both on vacation and at home (so much so, that I met my wife on a Walt Disney World fan site). I've read so many Walt Disney World guide books that they all look alike to me anymore. The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World is not a Disney World guide book intended to teach you how to get around the parks and when the best time to ride Dumbo is. What this book does is point out a lot of the overlooked and hidden details about the park. Many of the details that the average guest may look right at, failing to understand what they're looking at or why it's there, and failing to appreciate the meaning of it as a result. This book points out the painstaking detail the imagineers design into the park in an attempt to maintain an authentic atmosphere, or to ensure you truly *feel* the emotions they want you to feel at that moment, thus, allowing you to truly experience the magic. This book is for those who have... 5/5 John Crissup - See all my reviews, June 9, 2009

    Poorly formatted, edited, and written.

Whether from shoddy research or a misguided attempt to preserve that Disney magic, a few too many of these so-called secrets amount to nothing more than vague instructions to listen or pay attention, often phrased with coy, cutesy questions like "get it?" "give up?" or "how many can you find?". Perhaps the appendix of answers in the back of the book could keep things spoiler-free; too bad only nine seemingly arbitrary clues (out of "over 600") were treated thus. The trivia and behind-the-scenes info might have been a saving grace, but are presented as random paragraphs and snippets buried randomly in the middle of chapters, sometimes interrupting pages that have little to do with the trivia provided. However, formatting errors and the increasingly grating chirpy writing style are the least of this book's problems. The sorry state of this book can be summed up and nicely bookended by just two examples: the first, not thirty pages in, when the reader is provided with a secret... 2/5 s.w - See all my reviews This review is from: The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World: Over 600 Secrets of the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom (Paperback) Whether from shoddy research or a misguided attempt to preserve that Disney magic, a few too many of these so-called secrets amount to nothing more than vague instructions to listen or pay attention, often phrased with coy, cutesy questions like "get it?" When Len Testa said that there were to be major updates in what many of us consider to be the best guide (official or unofficial), that turned out to be an understatement. I only listed the "new" parts to the 2014 edition, but there are many more updates to the other sections as well. For first time visitors or regulars to learn what changed since last visit, although touring plans alone enough reason to buy it

I like to plan all my vacations ahead organizing the whole journey, and not using travel agencies, to be able to see and experience as much as possible. Due to that I like different kinds of guides who are full of practical information that help visitor, whether if it's for the first time or several times visited location. Also, I learned that unofficial guides are usually better than the official ones, given that they aren't burdened with what they have to write, but include what are for passengers and visitors the most important and useful information. One of such excellent guides is this one that let you learn everything you need for visiting Walt Disney World and plan your perfect vacation whether for a day or several of them. Taking into account that Walt Disney World occupies a large area and has so many interesting things to do, it is really must-have to have a guide of some kind. And this guide will be recommended one from me, based on my own experience... 5/5 Denis Vukosav - See all my reviews, September 9, 2013

This review is from: The Dark Side of Disney (Kindle Edition) In spite of the cheesy cover, I thought this would be an insight to parts of Disney that I wouldn't normally be able to find on my own. Not that I would try to score illegal substances at the park, but why include that chapter if all you are going to say is that you can't really score in the park. Some of the recommendations are just pointless. Save money on food at the park by ordering pizza at the hotel? I Want To Do Disney With This Guy...

I really liked this book! My husband is an obsessed Disney World fan, so that's pretty much the only place we vacation (he bought an RV almost solely for use at Disney's Fort Wilderness to eliminate the hassle and cost of dealing with hotels...he's committed). We usually go a couple times a year, depending on where the military has us stationed at the time. If we're within 12 hours of driving (I don't fly...sorry Leonard), then according to him, we're close enough!Having been to the parks so many times I thought I knew it all and was pretty smug about my Disney expertise...turns out, I didn't know jack. I loved the stories of he and his friends roaming the parks, going down to the Utilidors (something I MUST do now...thanks), and all the tips and tricks he's come up with through the years. While many are not tips and tricks I would personally use (what with them being illegal and all), they were still funny to read about. Being military, we get obscene ticket discounts... 4/5 Mercedes J. (Southeastern, CT) - See all my reviews, October 7, 2011

    Interesting, but crude

I kind of expected that this book would be more of a 'tell-all' from former Disney employees. It isn't... it's a travel guidebook to the 'dark side' of Disney's parks in Orlando. And by 'dark side', the author means many things, from perfectly licit money-saving tips to the totally illicit and illegal (which he does warn may garner you jail time either for real, or in "Disney jail", which he doesn't elaborate on). Did you ever want to know where to buy drugs in Orlando? Or know which shows at Disney were best seen while high? Or the best places to have sex in the parks? Or how to gate-crash the parks? You get the idea... This is not a family-friendly book!I did find it very interesting - there are plenty of semi-licit things listed that really piqued my interest, though I'd never actually attempt them. I did find the author's language to be pretty crude - the profanities took what was actually a very well-written (and well-researched, though that's a whole 'nother... 3/5 Cold, Dreary, and SEPpy - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) I have to say that compared with our first-ever trip to Disney in 2011, this book made a WORLD of difference in 2013 in terms of getting on every ride we wanted multiple times and just generally informing us of what's out there and what is available to do. This time, however, I'm disappointed slightly by the book. It still gave me the same great detailed information on the parks, including each ride and restaurant, and the basic touring plans to get you from A-Z at the parks. However, I felt that this time there is much more of an emphasis on pushing readers to the website where you have to spend money in addition to the book you've already purchased to get more specific touring plans to meet your needs. Disney is already such a time-consuming vacation to plan. I had hoped this very LONG book would be sufficient in terms of a planning tool. Also, because of the length and complexity of the book, I... 3/5 KB2079 - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 0 5/5 Mickelle Nieves - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids 2015 (Paperback) Book was very helpful... We actually have the 2013 and 2010 books. If you have an earlier book I recommend you just buy the scheduler if already understand the new fastpass+ system. If you don't understand it this book will help some but the section that explains it isn't all that great and I learned more online at wdinfo, etc.The book series is good don't get me wrong....but if you have a fairly recent one I would just recommend updating your online subscription so you can plan your day out on your mobile phone. BTW a smartphone is almost a must at Disney now. You can't even make reservations at a restaurant without one (well its very difficult without one). 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 5, 2014

    Not happy so far

0 1/5 Erin - See all my reviews This review is from: The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids 2015 (Paperback) Not happy so far.I bought this book to help me wade through all the information needed to plan an upcoming trip to Disney World. Imagine my dismay when attempting to read some relevant information in the book, only to be directed to the authors' website...where I need to subscribe to get the content I purchased the book for. Had I known that, I wouldn't have purchased the book at $17.99. For that price, the book should come with a code for a free subscription to access the material, or should just include the material in the first place. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 5, 2015
