    A Disney must!

0 5/5 Katherine Kristan - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Birnbaum's 2015 Walt Disney World: The Official Guide (Birnbaum Guides) (Paperback) I am a total WDW addict and go every year. And yet no matter how many times I have been there, I can't do everything. That is why I buy a Birnbaum's every year. I actually read it cover to cover (yes I am a big geek) and always manage to learn something new, or find something new I want to try. It's not just about learning what is new this year, you get to learn all the little details you may have missed on previousl trips. There are events that I only learned about a year or two ago, and they have them several times a week. The Wishes dessert party was a great addition to one of my trips. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 27, 2014

    A little disappointed

This is a nice book, but didn't meet my expectations or hopes. Should have looked at an older copy before preordering this one. We are planning our first trip to WDW with our 3 and 4 year old (not the target age, I know) and I was hoping for more photos from the park to prepare them for the things they'll actually see. Using the internet will be more helpful in this case. This book is filled with lots of colorful clip art of disney characters and a few very dated photos (not super helpful IMO). Most of he photos were taken during a staged photo shoot and don't show the characters in a way that my kids will actually see them there. Plus, it's already out of date, with going to press before WDW announced a decent amount of changes recently. That's not the authors fault, but still frustrating as the buyer. My kids are still enjoying it a little, because we are all so excited about going soon- who wouldn't be??Also,I ordered the adult one for me, and it has more photos in it... 4/5 SKJ - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) The Eyes Have It!

Customer Video Review Length:: 4:24 MinsIn the Winter or on a rainy day our family looks for indoor activities (other than watching TV). Often times we pull out one of our daughter's Play Doh sets, but often times we try to choose a game. The problem is that it is tough to find a game that a four year old can master that won't bore us parents to death ( I mean there are only so many time that you can play Candyland and Shoots and Ladders). Teh Disney Eye Found Is simple enough for our daughter to learn, but has enough variety for my wide and me.Notes-- For up to 6 players - game tokens included Mickey Mouse, Alice (from Alice in Wonderland), Platypus, Ariel, and Tinker Bell- Everyone in the game either wins or loses - making it a great game for any children that struggle with losing- To win everyone must reach Cinderella's castle before midnight... fail to do so means that everyone loses. All players continue to play (and look for items) even after... 5/5 CKE (USA) - See all my reviews, August 21, 2013

Plays well with a 3 year old

Coming from a fairly heavy board gaming family, I've been introducing games to my kids at a young age - in hopes of working our way up quickly to the more complex Euro-games my wife and I like to play.Still, at age three, my daughter has mostly been playing "Go Away Monster," "Candyland," and "Chutes and Ladders." She loves them, but has a little bit of a hard time following the rules and staying focused - mostly because the games are so one dimensional that she gets bored (either moving her pieces around the board gets boring, or pulling pieces out of a bag gets boring - games often devolve into a new game she makes up - which is awesome in it own right, but we still want her to learn to play a game to completion). In addition she is a huge Disney fanatic and a huge fan of the finding things puzzles in magazines like Highlights. Amazing Detail!

We've had so much fun with this one!You get a high quality game board, about six feet in length that fits together like a puzzle (three pieces). The puzzle format makes it easy to store the game when not in use. The game is intricately detailed with scenes from some of Disney's most famous movies, mixing newer movies and classics to good effect. Not only will your child recognize many of their favorites, you'll recognize yours! My daughter was Tink and I was Alice (my absolute favorite) and we raced to see who would reach Cinderella's Castle first. Along the way, you pull cards and search the board for small items: hats, numbers, letters, teapots, etc. While the game is a race, this portion of the game is all about cooperative play as you work together to find the little pictures and earn moves together. At first, my daughter was a little frustrated finding things - the pictures are very little - but using a little logic, she was soon finding... 5/5 OutlawPoet "OutlawPoet" (My Den of Iniquity - Vistors Welcome) - See all my reviews, November 3, 2013

    Sorry to have to criticize

I enjoy books about Disney and normally don't judge them harshly. But people should be warned about this one. In just the first couple dozen pages, there are numerous items that are out of date. It's kind of sad that families will go searching for the old-fashioned phone in the General Store, will go to awaken Tinker Bell in the Fantasyland shop, will go to see Tink in the keyhole of the sewing table there, the wooden leg on the lost and found shelf at the Frontierland station -- when all of these features have been removed over a year ago. In addition to being outdated, the information is sometimes just wrong. For instance, it isn't true that "WDW imagineers could not dig a basement in Orlando as they did at Disneyland in California ..." There are no utilidors in Disneyland. (Walt was frustrated to see a cowboy walking through Tomorrowland on his way to work in Frontierland in Disneyland -- since there was no other way to cross the park. And the idea for the WDW... 1/5 A thoughtful purchaser - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Enjoy the parks even more!

As a long time Disney fan, I've devoted a lot of time to my Disney obsession, both on vacation and at home (so much so, that I met my wife on a Walt Disney World fan site). I've read so many Walt Disney World guide books that they all look alike to me anymore. The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World is not a Disney World guide book intended to teach you how to get around the parks and when the best time to ride Dumbo is. What this book does is point out a lot of the overlooked and hidden details about the park. Many of the details that the average guest may look right at, failing to understand what they're looking at or why it's there, and failing to appreciate the meaning of it as a result. This book points out the painstaking detail the imagineers design into the park in an attempt to maintain an authentic atmosphere, or to ensure you truly *feel* the emotions they want you to feel at that moment, thus, allowing you to truly experience the magic. This book is for those who have... 5/5 John Crissup - See all my reviews, June 9, 2009

    Poorly formatted, edited, and written.

Whether from shoddy research or a misguided attempt to preserve that Disney magic, a few too many of these so-called secrets amount to nothing more than vague instructions to listen or pay attention, often phrased with coy, cutesy questions like "get it?" "give up?" or "how many can you find?". Perhaps the appendix of answers in the back of the book could keep things spoiler-free; too bad only nine seemingly arbitrary clues (out of "over 600") were treated thus. The trivia and behind-the-scenes info might have been a saving grace, but are presented as random paragraphs and snippets buried randomly in the middle of chapters, sometimes interrupting pages that have little to do with the trivia provided. However, formatting errors and the increasingly grating chirpy writing style are the least of this book's problems. The sorry state of this book can be summed up and nicely bookended by just two examples: the first, not thirty pages in, when the reader is provided with a secret... 2/5 s.w - See all my reviews This review is from: The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World: Over 600 Secrets of the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom (Paperback) Whether from shoddy research or a misguided attempt to preserve that Disney magic, a few too many of these so-called secrets amount to nothing more than vague instructions to listen or pay attention, often phrased with coy, cutesy questions like "get it?" This review is from: The Complete Walt Disney World 2015: The Definitive Disney Handbook (Paperback) Julie and Mike are back!!! This book just knocks it out of the park. I got mine yesterday and could not wait to dig in. I have been waiting 2 years for another edition of this amazing book. Each year the information in this book is updated and different so you are not reading the same thing over and over if you buy the 2008-2012 editions. The pictures are all updated too. So if you are a nerd and you love reading Disney Travel Guides every year...this is so refreshing because while the information given is accurate...it's always new. This is hands down by far the BEST guide out there. If you are new to Disney, or even if you are a "pro" this book is a must. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 8, 2014

The Neals do an excellent job of following those changes

We travel to Walt Disney World (WDW) two or more times per year. I have been purchasing the updated version of this book every year since 2007. There are some parts that are not rewritten each year, but not everything there changes every year. That said, many aspects of WDW change in a blink. The Neals do an excellent job of following those changes.I look forward to the release date of this book. I had this one in hand two days after Amazon released it. A must have for dreaming and planning

I waited 2 years for this edition - I kept checking Amazon and Barnes & Noble for a release date. I found their previous books really useful and informative. Finally it arrived - it's like revisiting Walt Disney World all over again from the comfort of home. While it's still one of the best guides to WDW, this version almost felt like the authors were forced into doing the 2015 edition. Their personal opinions of some of the attractions are kind of mean spirited and don't allow for a first (or fifth) timer's awe. The best example is how they basically trash the "Country Bear Jamboree" and I quote: "Goofy stupid bears ain't worth seein'." And that's their sub-title in bold print. Their opinions of the restaurants are along the same vein: Pecos Bill Café - "Expect to be disappointed". It's the most complete, detailed, full of color pictures and maps I've seen and a must have to help you plan your entire vacation: lodging, meals, which parks on... 4/5 Carolquiltinlady "quiltinlady" (Central Mass, USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Boy, Was This A Major Update!!

When Len Testa said that there were to be major updates in what many of us consider to be the best guide (official or unofficial), that turned out to be an understatement. I only listed the "new" parts to the 2014 edition, but there are many more updates to the other sections as well. Here are most of the new items: Coverage of Disney's new My Disney Experience website,* New strategies for "park-hopping" (visiting more than one park per day).* A new, detailed section on Disney's new RFID-enabled MagicBand wristbands* A new, detailed section on Fastpass* Our new list of the best Disney-specialist travel agents.* Complete rewrites of the reviews for Universal's Hard Rock Hotel, Portofino Bay and Royal Pacific hotels, plus a look at the Cabana Bay resort scheduled to open in 2014.* A review of the new Senses Spa at Disney's Grand Floridian resort. For first time visitors or regulars to learn what changed since last visit, although touring plans alone enough reason to buy it

I like to plan all my vacations ahead organizing the whole journey, and not using travel agencies, to be able to see and experience as much as possible. Due to that I like different kinds of guides who are full of practical information that help visitor, whether if it's for the first time or several times visited location. Also, I learned that unofficial guides are usually better than the official ones, given that they aren't burdened with what they have to write, but include what are for passengers and visitors the most important and useful information. One of such excellent guides is this one that let you learn everything you need for visiting Walt Disney World and plan your perfect vacation whether for a day or several of them. Taking into account that Walt Disney World occupies a large area and has so many interesting things to do, it is really must-have to have a guide of some kind. And this guide will be recommended one from me, based on my own experience... 5/5 Denis Vukosav - See all my reviews, September 9, 2013
