Golf Resorts, Where to Play in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica & the Caribbean

Creator: Jim Nicol, Barbara Nicol | Sports & Recreation - 2001

Hundreds of resorts are described in this book, with details including fees, course profile (par, hazards, yardage), resident pro information, accommodations (with prices), dining options and equipment rentals.

Publisher: Hunter Pub Inc

About this book
Golf resorts--it's a specialized niche for a savvy group that knows what it wants. What they want is golf, so the Nicols have devoted pages of attention to yardage and par, green fees, and special course features for hundreds of golf courses from Canada to Costa Rica. But there are other facets to consider as well, because the point here is to take a vacation, a golf vacation, where you get to luxuriate in your scenic vistas, eat your sumptuous meals, and play your 18 holes, too. From Casa De Campo Resort in the Dominican Republic to the Hound Ears Club in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, there are resorts for all sorts, with rustic lodges or posh hotels; full-scale gourmet pampering or low-key environments; all-golf, all-the-time atmospheres; or resorts that offer the works--tennis, fishing, sailing, or skiing--for the spouses who just aren't as intent on golf, perhaps, as you. The important thing is that all types of golf holidays are possible, and the Nicols have done the legwork so all you have to do is browse, choose, and make the reservations. "... the most useful guidebook... a great reference." -- The Traveling Golfer "If you love golf, Golf Resorts is for you." -- Relax Magazine " Make sure you have a copy on hand. This tome is the only pre-trip guide you'll need to research not only golf courses, but nearby lodging, restaurants, and additional recreation - for after-golf or non-golfing spouses. The book covers more than 600 courses. The authors have rated the top 50, breaking those down into 38 large and 12 small resorts." -- Northwest Airlines WorldTraveler Magazine "A guide written by golfers for golfers. Hundreds of resorts are described in this book, with details including fees, course profile (par, hazards, yardage), resident pro information, accommodations (with prices), dining options and equipment rentals. All establishments are open to the public." -- Amazon reviewer

Possibly the Best Golf Vacation Ever

Creator: James C. Coomer | Sports & Recreation - 2006-03

Written with humor and a colorful description of Scotland, this book could serve as a guide for others contemplating a similar experiment.

About this book
Traveling with ones wife can be enjoyable. Traveling with ones wife who is a non-golfer on a golfing vacation can be an adventure. Traveling with a non-golfing wife on a golf vacation to Scotland in an experiment. For the golfer, the needs are simple: golf clubs, golf balls, and a change of clothes. For a non-golfing spouse, every potentiality must be anticipated so that appearance and attire is always appropriate. For the golfer, food and accommodations are utilitarian. For the non-golfing wife, where one eats and where one stays determines what one wears. For the golfer, the elements are to be endured. For the non-golfer, they are to be avoided. For the golfer, travel between golf courses should be the shortest possible route. To the non-golfing wife, the route should be the most scenic with serendipitous stops along the way for sightseeing.(Possibly) The Best (Golf) Vacation Ever chronicles the planning, preparation, and execution of a golfing holiday to Scotland of a golfer husband and his non-golfing wife. From the Royal Dornoch Golf Club in the north of Scotland to Turnberry on the southern coast, the couple accommodates each others requirements to maximize their individual aspirations of what a Scottish holiday should entail. Written with humor and a colorful description of Scotland, this book could serve as a guide for others contemplating a similar experiment.

What Wii Sports Resort SHOULD Have Been

If you love minigame collections like Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, you'll love this game. If not, then there is no point in reading further.I'll start off with a few logistics. You only need your Wii remote and nunchuk, the balance board and zapper are optional and don't really affect the game play. You can use your Mii Avatar and even though it says you cannot use your Mii's glasses, it actually does let you. You can also register a dog companion if you choose. Now this game has a lot of similarities to Wii Sports Resort even going as far as to having some of the same games. In some cases, you'll find the Resort to be better (such as sky diving) and in other cases, Vacation to be better (such as with jet skiing). When you start playing the game, you will start off at Marine Resort, where you are given the task of completing Stamp Dash where you must play a specific game and getting a stamp for it. You must collect 20, 10 of which must come from... 5/5 Just ME "Mixed Girl" - See all my reviews = Fun:, October 11, 2011

Go Vacation - Time to dust off your balance board!

This is an impressive game for the money. Since the other reviews so far haven't really addressed the Balance Board - I will focus my review on that. If you enjoyed the skiing in Wii Fit, you will like this game. Many activities in the game give the option of using the BB. I think in most cases, it makes the activity more difficult, but if you're looking for a game that makes you want to dust off the BB and use it - this is it. Some games are similar to Wii Fit like Ski Jumping and Skiing. However, they take things to a new level with some of the games. Many activities use it (some better than others) - Wheel Slider and Dog Sledding are two of my favorites. Others include Grind master, in line skating, slalom skiing, snow board, snow tubing, sidewinder, jet ski, half pipe, skateboard, surfing, paragliding, and pie thowing. One thing that is unique in this game is that you can just put on some skates and just exlore the entire city resort (or other gear at the other... 5/5 Diane (Iowa) - See all my reviews = Fun:, November 3, 2011

    Go Vacation! Love it!

I really LOVE this game! My friend and I have been playing off and on for a couple weeks and have gotten maybe 1/2 the treasures and minigames under my belt...yet there is still so much to do! We're in our 40s and thoroughly enjoy it...and her 4 year old loves to play, too! It's actually the 1st game she can get around in and actually accomplishes stuff! It's challenging yet simple! It's very entertaining and I always find something new/cool every time I play. I've even taken to drawing my own maps of the resorts so I can keep track of where things are and what I've found! Have you found the alien spaceship yet?! Comment if you get stuck on finding something, maybe I can help. UPDATE: 4/2/13: Well I have had the chance to use these glasses on the course and my initial review stands. I'm very satisfied. These definitely brighten things up but still filter out the glare. Also, these are the first sunglasses I've found to be comfortable to wear when I putt. I know I know - that is the idea right? They are called 'greenreader' sunglasses afterall. But still, I thought it was worth saying it out loud. also, the price on Amazon seems to have dropped dramatically on these so what was a decent deal when I bought this past off season seems like a great deal to me right now at $9.95. Get them ... very lightweight and comfortable, and brightens things up considerably without distorting.===============These are extremely light fitting sunglasses which will be great for when I'm playing golf. Unfortunately golf season is over here so I haven't had the chance to test them out on the course yet and can't comment on how good they are as "green reader" glasses... 5/5 Riverdale Rob "RR :-)" (Bronx, New York United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Lightweight

These are great glasses for hazy, cloudy days on the golfcourse. I really do not know whether they improve your reading of greens, but they protect your eyes from chilly air and give some protection. Although they do not fit as well as my Oakleys, they are comfortable enough and don't slip. I would buy them in other colors. 4/5 megliocomprare - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Good value

The glasses are as advertised and come with many useful accessories, plus a certificate for a pair of sunglasses for a minimal charge. They reduce eye strain for me, are extremely comfortable and provide good eye area protection while shooting. Years ago I had an expensive pair of B & L/ Calloway golf glasses that did show golf green detail better, but they broke after six uses and were over $100, making these glasses a superior value to me. I will order more in the future. 4/5 Honest Abe (New York State) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) A charming and informative work

It is not often that you pick up a book about golf courses and find it hard to put down. This inspirational book is well researched both in terms of the Golf courses and the local history, geography etc, but it's strength lies in the author's ability to convey her own evident passion for the subject by weaving these strands together to give an evocative picture of the places and give you a feel for the rich culture and history. I am a keen 10 handicap golfer and have visited Ireland many times over a number of years, this book really captures the charm of playing golf in Ireland. This will be the second thing I pack on my next trip - after the golf clubs of course. 5/5 Andy Chapman (London England) - See all my reviews This review is from: Emerald Greens: The Essential Guide to Golf Vacations in Ireland (Paperback) It is not often that you pick up a book about golf courses and find it hard to put down. The author writes back

I am sorry the reader from Los Altos was disappointed with "Emerald Greens" but I set out to write a book that featured terrific golf courses that are not on the package tour route and that can be played for less than £50 sterling. It was also intended for the non-golfing companions of golfers and for golfers who like to discover something of the country in which they are playing and who take time to "smell the flowers." That's why I describe castles and gardens and scenic drives and tell you the names of the mountains you can see while you're playing or just driving between courses. ..."The Emerald Greens" is the perfect book for my needs. Her comments about playing golf on a conveyor belt really struck home-all of the sudden I wanted to avoid Ballybunion! In large part, the book met my needs and I used it to help me select the courses I wanted to play. So, put that in your hat if you're planning a trip. The book definitely has value in that it nicely combines local attractions beyond golf. But I also have a number of complaints about the book. First, it's a travel book and I just couldn't ignore the stunning lack of pictures-especially of the courses. I'd rather look at 3 or 4 representative pictures of each course than wade through mind-numbing text about how water affects your tee-shot on the 4th hole. I also would have appreciated some kind of course rating system (3 stars or whatever) based on the author's judgment as to how tough a given course is, how scenic and so on. It's a cute quick read....

This is a paperback book of about 120 pages. It chronicles a ten day golf trip to Scotland of a husband and wife (who doesn't play golf).I suspect that most folks would be bored silly with the book and it's tone, which is descriptive with only small stabs at humor. However, the story overall is cute and, after reading a lot about golf and it's history in Scotland it was nice to read a story about someone actually playing golf.To his credit, the author doesn't make the mistake of writing the minutae of each hole and stroke played...Enjoy... 4/5 Czarnecki - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Solid performance, loaded with features

I've only had this for about a week, but so far I am very impressed. This is the first major purchase for me without reading a review. I waited several weeks but couldn't find one review, so I bought based on its features and on the consistently high Sony camcorder reviews. I'm actually not a fan of Sony, but they seem to make the best camcorder in this price rage. As you can see by the specs, this camera has just about every feature you could want and more so I won't go into the feature set. Yes, I wish it had a viewfinder but those are pretty rare these days. The touch screen isn't very responsive but it gets the job done. The video quality is outstanding. Initially I was disappointed until I realized the default factory setting was LP mode. Once you set is at the highest resolution you will be amazed. The stated recording time of 11 hours is based on the LP mode; the highest resolution recording time with the internal memory is about 2:45.The USB cable built... 5/5 Jeffrey Myers (Concord, ca USA) - See all my reviews, April 1, 2013
