    A planning guide without peer

In my work at Guide to Travel Guides, we concentrate on finding excellent travel books from smaller publishers, books that travelers may not yet be familiar with. No Worries Hawaii, newly published in late 2007, is just such a book. Really a travel planning guide without peer. Its 160 pages are fabulous stuff, chocked full of helpful information and some of the loveliest color photos around. If you play ball with the Sprouts, they'll help you zero in on the greatest island vacation you've ever had. The Sprouts are veterans of the Hawaii guidebook scene. Their deservedly much-praised Trailblazer series includes four titles on the islands of Hawaii: Kauai Trailblazer, Maui Trailblazer, Oahu Trailblazer, and Hawaii the Big Island Trailblazer, all of which focus on outdoor activities of every kind: walks, hikes, bicycle rides, snorkeling, driving tours and on and on. In No Worries Hawaii they use their expertise to help you decide the type of vacation you want, the setting you want, the... 5/5 Greg Hayes (Carson City, NV United States) - See all my reviews, December 3, 2007

Terrific book for preplanning a trip to Hawaii

0 5/5 Amazon Customer (New Jersey) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: No Worries Hawaii: A Vacation Planning Guide for Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island (Paperback) This book is terrific for preplanning a trip to Hawaii. The author gives great descriptions of the islands and their attractions but what makes this an outstanding book is his approach to planning your trip. There is an analysis of the different type of travelers and an overview of lodging styles. The best section is his `test' of your interests to determine which island has the sights that really matter to you. He includes everything from picnicking to snorkeling to religious shrines to volcano watching to horseback riding and more. With his lists, I was able to prioritize what I wanted to see and what islands to visit. It also told me where I needed a rental car and where I did not. He has a lot of helpful telephone numbers and beautiful photographs. If you want a lot of detail about hotels and activities, I would go online. But, if you want to look at the big picture first and get your bearings, start with this book. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 14, 2008

    The Best

For anyone contemplating a trip to Hawaii this is hands down THE best guide on the market. No other books even come close. Not sure which islands to visit? This book is invaluable in helping you make that decision. Not sure what to do or where to go when you get there? This book will give you all the details. It gives a great overview of all the islands, plus all the specifics you will need for each island. Beautifully organized, clearly written, and with gorgeous photos, this guide will be a trusted companion for your first or many visits to America's enchanted isles. Must see places, great beaches, hikes and mountain bikes, swimming, surfing, snorkeling, golf courses, resorts, restaurants, whale watching, helicopter rides, you name it and this book has it ALL. Plus great travel advice and many little known or off the beaten path places to go and things to do. I've made many trips to Hawaii, and used many guidebooks, and this is the one I wished I had at the beginning. The Real Deal on Sights and Sites

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT: Seeking a guidebook which covers all the districts of the Big Island, combines gotta-see highlights with intriguing out-of-the-way places, history and lore, and is appropriate for visitors who are active but not ready to climb Everest or do the Ironman? One focusing not on eating, sleeping, and shopping but on interesting places & events? This is it!The Merciers offer ten chapters including Kona (60 pages), Kohala (15 pages), Hilo (40 pages), Volcanoes National Park (13 pages), Kau (16 pages), Puna (15 pages), North Kohala (16 pages) and Waimea (8 pages). Each chapter has visitor-useful maps with landmarks where the signage for turns is obscure and, a big plus, details on events and festivals throughout the year for each location. For myself, I want a guide book packed with ideas, stories, information, and unusual as well as usual places. Where to drink, shop, party-hearty, and sleep are for me less urgent in book form. The Big Island is a BIG Island

The Big Island is not like the other islands in the Hawaiian Chain. A traveller can get a pretty good overview of the other islands with a one-day driving trip but the Big Island is much too large and too diverse to attempt in one day. This book breaks the Island sightseeing down into areas that can each be reasonably explored in one day. If you arrive by cruise ship there are walking tours for each of the cruise ship arrival points. If you are renting a car there are driving tours efficiently laid out to maximize your touring time. Along with the tours there are short historical notes that coincide with the sites and give much depth to the significance of the locations. Chris and Tyler seem to have thoroughly researched and personally visited the locations that they describe and in this book they assess the ease of access to each site for those with limited time or mobility issues. This book, along with the others in their "Your Ideal..." series is a valuable tool, easy to... 5/5 hammock at honl's - See all my reviews This review is from: Your Ideal Hawaii Island Vacation: A Guide for Visiting the Big Island of Hawaii (Paperback) The Big Island is not like the other islands in the Hawaiian Chain. The best guidebook for the Big Island

0 5/5 Elizabeth Cooper - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Your Ideal Hawaii Island Vacation: A Guide for Visiting the Big Island of Hawaii (Paperback) This book is the most user friendly guidebook I have experienced. It is an easy read that takes you to points of interest that are accessible, yet not overly crowded. The tidbits of history, lore and narrative draw you into the experiences transforming you into an active participant rather than a mere observer. A "must read" for the traveler to the Big Island! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 17, 2014

A Great Way to Entertain the Kids

0 5/5 Fig Tree Learning Center (Fresno, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: My Hawaiian Vacation (Paperback) We took this book on vacation with my 8 and 10 year old to Honolulu. It kept them engaged while they "hunted" around for the items in the book. I relaxed by the pool as they photographed bugs, birds, even their Shirley Temples. My kids liked to photograph the items, then we printed them in the hotel lobby. They spent hours decorating the pages. It was a lot of fun. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 10, 2014
