Very helpful to my trip planning!

My husband and I are planning an Anniversary Trip to Hawaii in late 2013 and I was confused as to which book to order, since there is more than one island. So, I decided to order the to try to save on booking a travel agent. So far, I find this guide very helpful to my trip planning! First of all, the pictures are beautiful! There's an island chart that tells you what is offered on each island. That was a big help in deciding which island to stay on. It offered helpful hints for people planning honeymoons, family vacations; even people who opt to do cruises! So far, I love this book and as soon as I finish planning our family trip, I'll be passing it on to at least three family members who liked what they saw when I showed it to them over the holidays! Honeymoon Planning Helper

I bought the Fodor's guide for Hawaii to help in planning my honeymoon in July of next year. Although I've been able to get much of this information online, its nice to have a lot of tips consolidated in one location. It is especially helpful for my fiance to review for ideas that I can then research in more detail online. Ultimately, I was pretty clueless when it came to what to do and where to stay when visiting the islands and this guide has been very helpful. 4/5 quikslvrry - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Terrific book for preplanning a trip to Hawaii

This book is terrific for preplanning a trip to Hawaii. The author gives great descriptions of the islands and their attractions but what makes this an outstanding book is his approach to planning your trip. There is an analysis of the different type of travelers and an overview of lodging styles. The best section is his `test' of your interests to determine which island has the sights that really matter to you. He includes everything from picnicking to snorkeling to religious shrines to volcano watching to horseback riding and more. With his lists, I was able to prioritize what I wanted to see and what islands to visit. It also told me where I needed a rental car and where I did not. He has a lot of helpful telephone numbers and beautiful photographs. If you want a lot of detail about hotels and activities, I would go online. But, if you want to look at the big picture first and get your bearings, start with this book. 5/5 Hate to Shop Love Amazon (New Jersey) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Cute short film in our permanent collection

This is the same Pixar SHORT film that appeared before the movie Cars 2. It is the very charming tale leading up to the Toy Story Barbie's and Ken's first kiss. My daughter watches it frequently and it always brings a smile to my face. This is a short film, thus that is why the cost is low. This film will only last a few minutes. It is NOT a full length film. This film takes place after Toy Story 3 (TS3) and other than the presence of additional characters from TS3 one doesn't have to worry about this film giving away any of the plot of TS3 if you (or your child) hasn't seen that full-length movie. 5/5 M. "Toy Story's Hawaiian Vacation" is Hilarious

This five-minute sequel to "Toy Story 3" features once again Tom Hanks as Cowboy Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear heading its stunning all-star voice cast including Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Timothy Dalton, John Ratzenberger, and, yes, Michael Keaton as Ken and Jodi Benson as Barbie. If not for the closing credits, I might have eventually placed Jodi Benson from her voice as Ariel in "The Little Mermaid," but my jaw simply dropped at seeing who provided Ken's voice (I just never would have guessed). The ingenious plot features the "Toy Story" gang throwing a romantically fun "Hawaiian" getaway date for Barbie & a despondent Ken in a little girl's room after they are accidently left behind from the family's tropical vacation. The laugh-out-loud gag about where they get the sand for the "beach" scene is worth $1.99 by itself. Appropriate for ages 4 and up.Rating: 10/10.P.S. Wait for a quick follow-up scene immediately after the closing credits. 5/5 Hound Dog (Boise, ID, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) The best travel book I've read so far!

Normally, I try to avoid these "Dummies" guides, as I'm just the slightest bit offended by the idea that I'm a "dummy" just because I don't know EVERYTHING. But after flipping through books at the local bookstore looking for a good guidebook for my honeymoon trip to Oahu and Kauai next October, I finally decided on this one. It's got great maps, for one thing, as well as extensive lists of hotels, places to eat, and things to do. Because the descriptions are full of personal anecdotes, I really trust that Leas has seen and done it all herself and she's being straight with me about what she thinks -- traditional travel guides always make me nervous because they're written in the third person. If I'm going to spend ... on a vacation, I really want to know what things I should do and what things I shouldn't! Possibly the greatest feature, though, is the fact that at least 75% of the entries for places and activities have web site URLs. Even though the book is... 5/5 Meg Brunner (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Hawaii For Dummies (Dummies Travel) (Paperback) Normally, I try to avoid these "Dummies" guides, as I'm just the slightest bit offended by the idea that I'm a "dummy" just because I don't know EVERYTHING. A Very Good General Reference

"Hawaii For Dummies" is a good general reference, especially for first time visitors to Hawaii. I visit Hawaii on business about four times a month, and have found the information in this guide to be generally quite accurate. In any guidebook there are obviously things that are out of date, and that's especially true in a guide this compendious. Most of the inaccuracies are prices that have increased, though in my personal experiences none of the increases I have seen has been ridiculously out of line with inflation. I find that the diagrams are good for general planning, but a dedicated map of the island you are visiting is necessary for navigation. The book has several useful features including the Post-It flags to mark pages of interest (a very useful feature) and a "Quick Concierge" section in the Appendix which is a quick reference to important phone numbers and Internet addresses. The book discusses customs, weather, selecting things to see, and choosing an island. I... 4/5 Robert I. Hedges - See all my reviews, December 22, 2006

The best travel book I've ever owned

I have traveled a lot, and own a lot of travel books, but have never felt compelled to write a review of one-- until now.Three years ago, while planning our two-week honeymoon to Maui and Kauai, I bought a LOT of Hawaii books. In the planning stage, I kept finding myself returning to this book. Unlike Fodors and Frommers, the author actually makes JUDGMENTS about places and activities and tells you what the BEST of each category are. Imagine that-- rather than just providing a rote listing of the hotels on an island with a short description (and maybe a star or two), the author actually tells you which hotels to go to if you want serious romance, which are best for families, and which rooms to request (or not). Rather than listing activities, the author actually tells you which are the safest and most reliable helicopter companies, which are the best companies to to take for a private, romantic and uncrowded sailing trip. Worthy guide if you want a general overview of Hawaii.

I picked up this guide book because we are planning a trip to Hawaii later this year. The chapters are laid out in the following manner:Chap 1- The Best of Hawaii (this includes the author's picks for best adventures, snorkeling, restaurants, etc regardless of island)Chap 2- Strategies for Seeing Hawaii (some general tips on your vacation, but nothing groundbreaking)Chap 3- The Best All-Hawaii Itineraries (gives you ideal itineraries for 1 or 2 week stays in each of the islands)Chaps 4-9- There is a separate chapter for each island. Each island chapter gives you an ideal 3 day itinerary, along with sections on the popular parts of each island. You also get the standard travel guide book features such as best restaurants, best hotels, best sightseeing, etc.Chap 10- History of HawaiiChap 11- The Best Special-Interest Trips (such as special outdoor activities and food festivals)Chap 12- The Savvy... 4/5 Go Blue 99 (Atlanta GA) - See all my reviews, June 16, 2010

    A Visual Guide

In comparison to , Frommer's offers visual guidance with lush photographs on virtually every page. This book suggests spending at least one week per island and it attempts to include undiscovered territories too. However, no single guide can possibly cover everything unless several books are merged together. Therefore when choosing this type of text, it would be wise to focus on the experience a traveler desires, such as luxury or budget travel; plane, boat, or automobile commuting in comparison to other forms of voyaging such as hiking, hitchhiking (illegal in Maui), biking, kayaking, or yachting. This is a good general guide that may be supplemented with data from websites or other texts like... 5/5 Penetralia - See all my reviews This review is from: Frommer's Hawaii Day by Day (Frommer's Day by Day - Full Size) (Paperback) Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) Authentic experiences, wide range of interests--GREAT guide!

What we liked most about this guide was its variety in representing both typical touristy stuff and, more importantly, REAL experiences that are grounded in local customs and culture. Far from the pre-fabricated experience, food suggestions include the must-eat shrimp from any of these little trucks on Oahu, more notably, "Giovanni's Original White Shrimp Truck". The photo of a beaten up bus with hollowed out windows serving as the place to order and be served, sides covered in scribbles and faded paint--what a gem!Likewise, the guide has the usual offerings like great maps, gorgeous glossy pics of locals, beaches, volcanoes, the flora and fauna, etc. with tips on activities for kids, adventurers, historians, sports enthusiasts, botanists, and more! The only downside is you'll desperately want to go back to Hawaii and do everything in this book! 5/5 Hedera Femme (USA) - See all my reviews, June 15, 2010

    Fun time vacation

My husband and I had played other Pop Cap games. Sometimes they are too dark but Vacation Quest was bright and the scenes and locations were fun. It was especially good on a cloudly cool day to look at the beach scenes. 5/5 Frances Meier "Ex. 34:6,7" (Valpararaiso,IN USA) - See all my reviews, April 9, 2011

    Great fun!

This game is a lot of fun! The objects are not terribly hard to find. The mini games are different each time, and I like the variety. Overall, this is a very relaxing game to play. 5/5 Elaine - See all my reviews = Fun:, April 25, 2011

    great mind game

I have always enjoyed mind puzzles and this is one of those games that makes you lose track of time. I always decide to do "just one more" puzzle. Keeping my mind sharp after retirement is one of my goals and this is a fun way to exercise my brain. The process is easy but the puzzles require real concentration on details. I also like the variety as you unlock new puzzles. It is not for those who seek action and violence. 5/5 jtc - See all my reviews = Fun:, February 9, 2012

California here we come, right back where dad started from...

I purchased this book for a family road trip we took in 2004. I was really impressed with all it had to offer. It had a section on ways to make the time in the car more enjoyable, what to bring, what to plan for, how to cut down costs, etc. And then it had all of California mapped out so you could quickly look up things to do in every area you planned to visit. There are ratings for what things will cost (admission fees to attractions, lists of hotels and their prices and ratings, camping places and costs and ratings, restaurants ratings and prices, etc.) and Family Fun also rated things on a fun scale (from "fine" to "Family Fun Recommended"), which really helped us to weed out the so-so from the don't miss since we had limited time and money. We just wanted to get the most out of our vacation. We didn't want to drive by something and miss out because we didn't know it was there. We also needed to plan our budget and research places to stay and things to do. Okay, may be better for out-of-state people

We live in California, and bought this to for information on Hawaii. Seems to have some good info, as the California portion seems to be right on the mark with what we like to see and do in California. The information is very good, but we already knew a lot of the California stuff already. We are looking forward to trying out the Hawaii information soon!If you are not from California, and need to plan a trip here, this is a good tool to have in your planning kit! 3/5 John Falone "Only the Truth...always."
