    Small but handy

When I first received this book I was a bit disappointed by the fact that the book is no more than a 1/4 inch think pocket guide to Savannah and surrounding areas. I think that might be Fodor's thing or what they mean by 'Fodor's In Focus' though? Despite it's diminuitive size, it does pack quite a bit information about Savannah and Hilton Head.In my opinion, it could be much more comprehensive pertaining to things to do in areas referenced. Specifically, the book could go into much more detail concerning area tours, parks, golf courses, and otherwise local attractions. Instead, it's like, 'Yup, they've got lots of nice ones'. At best, I would say that Fodor's does a very good job describing the major hotels in the area and locally operated dining options. While I do not need a review on the chain restaurants, I would have appreciated a listing for reference of all restaurants in given areas. In all, I'd probably buy this book again even though the book seems as... 3/5 Sun Devil #1 Fan - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) A must!

When I travel, I always have my Fodors! A must for a trip as it gives you everything you need to know when in a new place. Well, even in a place you have been before. I have these, but I end up buying the newer versions when they come out. A must! 5/5 Enid Barnes "Envye" (WV) - See all my reviews, March 27, 2011

    in focus/portable are just that

it's an ok book if you don't want the full edition. moon's savannah and the low country is better. i like a book that opens up more and isn't difficult to keep open and see the inside edge of the pages. generally i really like fodors and frommers books, but this time moon editions win me over. don't get me wrong-this isn't a BAD book, it just doesn't handle easily for leisure reading and is not comprehensive enough for me. if you want a smaller book for a lesser price, that's what you get. 3/5 emptywallet - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Ehhh...

This book was okay. It was a good starting point. I was looking for a Hilton Head travel book, but all the books I found on Amazon were SAVANNAH & Hilton Head. There were good restaraunt suggestions, but nothing special. There was only one, small, non-detailed map. Luckily, there were some local, free, Hilton Head specific travel guides at the house we were staying at and we mostly used those once we got there. 2/5 Brittany - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Really wish they would make one just for Hilton Head

I really wish that Fodor's would make a travel guide just for Hilton Head. This one was better than the other guide I bought. This one has more maps, and has a page dedicated toward stuff for kids. It's nice having a guide that has ratings and pricing, but once we got to the island we just used the local, free, Hilton Head specific travel guides that were at the house where we were staying. 3/5 Brittany - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Charleston Review, Fodor's

The best thing that I liked about this book was that it was small enough to carry around. I studied it and highlighted points of interest before the trip and it was easy to reference back to it throughout our visit. I liked the descriptions of items under 'points of interest.' I would have liked a longer list of restaurants, especially the restaurants that were not so expensive. The maps in the book were just ok. I would definitely recommend this book; it was a good value. 4/5 mjr - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Hilton Head History

I enjoyed looking at the pictures in this book but I was a little disappointed that it didn't have more of the really old history of the island. The 1900 to present was captured very well. The pictures were interesting and of good quality. The captions were clear. If you aren't doing research and just want a general background, this book is great. Having just been on Hilton Head, it is too bad that almost nothing remains that were pictured in this book. What a change a bridge made. Since 1960's, this island has been so built up and gentrified it no longer is a agricultural or natural area. Thank goodness for pictures. 4/5 James Guilford (MA) - See all my reviews, April 24, 2007
