About this book
On July 16, 2007 an earthquake struck Kashiwazaki, Japan at 10:13 a.m. local time. The epicenter was located 60 km southwest of Honshu in Niigata Prefecture, Japan, and registered a magnitude of 6.6. Moderate damage was observed in Kashiwazaki, located southwest of the earthquake (population 96,000), and smaller towns in the area such as Kariwa (south), and Nishiyama (south-southeast). The total fatalities were 11, and injuries were 1,339. This report discusses in detail the effects of this earthquake on lifeline systems in electric power, communication, water and wastewater, highways, ports, railways, gas system and tanks, and emergency response. Most chapters provide an overview of the system s performance, followed by sections describing the system, its damage, emergency response, and recovery. Each chapter finishes with conclusions and recommendations.

    Replacing my Epson and HP

I've been a loyal HP customer for more than 15 years, both as an individual and as by influencing corporate purchasing decisions, I am happy to say that Brother has finally gotten over their earlier quality and usability issues. See, in the mid-90s, Brother gave me and others a really bad taste in our mouths due to the issues with drivers, their buggy or non-existent software and just overall poor quality. HP was and is THE name in consumer and business printers. Epson was a good alternate, but there just wasn't any others, so due to availability, I was an HP man.Enter the Brother MFC, which was sleek, prints great quality and filled with useful features such as wifi / wireless connectivity and an interactive LCD screen and automatic duplexing (none of which is necessarily new or innovative except for the duplexing). The set-up was easy and full of wizards but the process takes a very long time, upwards of 30 minutes and in multiple separate wizards.I like... 5/5 Judson I. Nice looking, compact, easy to use but could use some improvement

A nice looking, compact, and easy to use printer are the best things I can say about this product. It looks great on my desk with my Macs and works with iPad and other hand-held devices.I used to have a Brother MCF-9840 CDW laser color all in one printer which was very good (lasted three years with heavy use) but the problem with it was that it was such a beast: it probably weighed as much as I do with paper and toner inside it, and was impossible to carry by yourself for most people. This Brother is basic ink jet though it does everything the old one does, just more slowly. It truly does make a huge racket when it prints and on the next iteration of this series that would be the number one thing I would tell Brother to improve. Sometimes you like to print things when you are on the phone and there is a need for less noisy printers. They could also improve the flimsiness of the paper tray and the ink printing quality, which is a little passé/faded. However, I print less... 4/5 Jeania K (Phoenix, most of the time.) - See all my reviews This review is from: Brother Printer MFCJ4410DW Business Smart Multi-Function Inkjet and Wireless Color Photo Printer with Scanner, Copier and Fax (Office Product) A nice looking, compact, and easy to use printer are the best things I can say about this product. Not perfect but good for the price

We picked this up on special the other day and for the prices it's hard to beat. As with other similar Brother models the biggest problem is the noise, the paper handling mechanism is very loud. The color is good but not great (somewhat light/washed on normal paper with normal settings compared to other inkjets I've used). Speed is acceptable, nowhere near as fast as listed (on normal print settings) but the business features more than make up for the few shortcomings. Wireless setup was a breeze and all functions (duplex scan and printing, emailing ect.) work as expected with all are Windows7 and Mac machines (though the Mac required installation of the software for any functions (even printing) whereas the Win7 machines did not). I would recommend this as a good basic office printer for occasional use but probably not as a heavy-duty printer or where high photo quality is needed in documents. 4/5 KZIWarrior "KZIWarrior" (Nashville, TN) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Nice Christmas present for Mom

It is a bit smaller than you would think from the picture, but the product information does include the following:Height: 19 millimetersWidth: 13 millimetersLength: 18 inchesI got this for my mother for Christmas. She at first thought the chain would be too short, but it comes down a bit (maybe 1-2 inches) past the collarbone and looks very nice on her. It's dainty and pretty and does sparkle for its size. Nice gift. 4/5 Redfallon "Jamie H." (Dallas TX) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Very pretty!

Very nice. Will go with any outfit. The pendant is smaller than I thought, that's why I give it a 4 stars. 4/5 H. NGO "ngo1331" (Baton Rouge, LA) - See all my reviews, May 31, 2007

Nice pendant, not as nice chain.

I ordered this for my ladyfriend. She absolutely loved it. The diamond in it is tiny, however it looks bigger in the picture because of the way it is set. The only thing is that the chain broke the next day while she was wearing it. The chain is very delicate and loosely assembled. Overall it is very nice and I would definitely order it again but I would order a different chain with it. 4/5 BassPhemy (MN) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I Love DC - District of Columbia Bumper Sticker

washington, i love dc, i love washington dc,
Washington, D.C. formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, the District, or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States, founded on July 16, 1790. Article One of the United States Constitution provides for a federal district, distinct from the states, to serve as the permanent national capital. The City of Washington was originally a separate municipality within the federal territory until an act of Congress in 1871 established a single, unified municipal government for the whole District. It is for this reason that the city, while legally named the District of Columbia, is known as Washington, D.C. The city shares its name with the U.S. state of Washington, which is located on the country's Pacific coast. The city is located on the north bank of the Potomac River and is bordered by the states of Virginia to the southwest and Maryland to the other sides. The District has a resident population of 599,657; because of commuters from the surrounding suburbs, its population rises to over one million during the workweek. The Washington Metropolitan Area, of which the District is a part, has a population of 5.3 million, the ninth-largest metropolitan area in the country. The centers of all three branches of the federal government of the United States are located in the District, as are many of the nation's monuments and museums. Washington, D.C. hosts 174 foreign embassies as well as the headquarters of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The headquarters of other institutions such as trade unions, lobbying groups, and professional associations are also located in the District. The city is governed by a mayor and a 13-member city council. However, the United States Congress has supreme authority over Washington, D.C., and may overturn local laws. Residents of the District therefore have less self-governance than residents of the states. The District has a non-voting, at-large Congressional delegate, but no senators. D.C. residents could not vote in presidential elections until the ratification of the Twenty-third Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1961.
