About this book
On July 16, 2007 an earthquake struck Kashiwazaki, Japan at 10:13 a.m. local time. The epicenter was located 60 km southwest of Honshu in Niigata Prefecture, Japan, and registered a magnitude of 6.6. Moderate damage was observed in Kashiwazaki, located southwest of the earthquake (population 96,000), and smaller towns in the area such as Kariwa (south), and Nishiyama (south-southeast). The total fatalities were 11, and injuries were 1,339. This report discusses in detail the effects of this earthquake on lifeline systems in electric power, communication, water and wastewater, highways, ports, railways, gas system and tanks, and emergency response. Most chapters provide an overview of the system s performance, followed by sections describing the system, its damage, emergency response, and recovery. Each chapter finishes with conclusions and recommendations.

    Soul-touching history

Let me just preface this by admitting my biases up front. I am a geeky Catholic academic who majored in history in college and this book was written by a geeky Orthodox academic. So if you fit into neither of those categories, it is possible that you might find this book either deadly dull or theologically offensive or both. This is the true story of the 16 Carmelite nuns who specifically and actively consecrated themselves body and soul as a holocaust offering to restore God's peace to Revolutionary France that was then in the grip of The Terror. You may already be aware of the rudiments of their story from the fictionalized account by Gerturde von Le Fort "Song at the Scaffold" or the opera/theatrical production "Dialogues of the Carmelites." This book is the history behind those fictional accounts and acts to put a real face to these courageous women of faith. I cannot describe how deeply touched I was at the faith of these women. The account of their conduct from their... 5/5 T. Avallone (USA) - See all my reviews, August 4, 2002

    ultimate book on compiegne martyrs

This is a first-rate book, made important by intense and impeccable scholarship, and as well by genuine devotion on the author's part (himself an Orthodox Christian and an academic). William Bush's unadorned and concentrated understanding of the mystery of sacrifice hands this book a beautiful and finally essential aspect in revealing the holocaust of sixteen nuns against even Reason - Who bore the sons that made the madness. Bush wisely makes a book about more than religion and murder, and creates a perfect moving stream out of tidal events, making an awfully effective read. He takes especial pains to dissect the coming about of the holocaust from the view of innocents; the proposition of the choice to be made, the preparation, he even enters the interior lives of the Prioress and Mistress of Novices - aristocratic women living out the literal meaning of privilege. By keeping to the truth, Bush proves these women's gain of discernment and transparency, the silent witnessing so... 5/5 LuelCanyon - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) carmelites of compiegne during the French Revolution

As a French national,I was introduced to the plight of those sixteen women while browsing the Web a year ago . Born in the city where the event took place ,I remember well , as a young boy , people sneering aimlessly at those women ,whenever the subject was raised. As a child ,I felt the subject very obscure and confusing and never got round to ask my friends for more explanation. In my mind it was more or less about women in black hurrying along some cobbled streets in the old Compiegne of that time .In fact a film had been made of those carmelites with leading French actors and actresses ,and the news echoed round .Anyway I never got a chance to understand at that time the significance of it all and I must own up ,rarely thought much of it afterwards .I was only ten then . Later in life I came over to England and took with me a bit of the magic of my childhood as a remedy to my loneliness here.In july 2001,I noticed the book by W.Bush and decided to order it from America... 5/5 luxell french living in London .Artist de Pr... FINALLY! Sony finally delivers a product worthy of MJ's legacy after his death.

First things first. I've been wanting this Bad tour for so long that I felt the day would never come and it finally has. I woke up at 7:30Am just to be at Target at 8am when they opened to buy this thing. Now that I finally have it I'm in disbelief.Over the period when this DVD wasn't available I searched the internet, high and low, to the farthest corners of the world wide web just to find footage of this epic concert and I can't tell you how many horrible bootlegs of this tour I've had to endure. The only one worthy of viewing as far as quality wise was the Bad in Japan tour September 12, 1987 at the Krokuen Stadium, which is available on youtube. It is an actual edited and directed show and the quality was like a worn out VHS tape at best. I dreamed of when an official copy would come out.Now we got this! This show is exceptional! The quality is super VHS with a good job at converting it to DVD. It looks way better than how it would look on your VCR but... 5/5 Georgio Alfani - See all my reviews This review is from: Michael Jackson: Live At Wembley (1988) (DVD) First things first. THIS IS THE MJ LIVE DVD WE'VE WAITED FOR!

Nothing against the DVD from the Dangerous tour, but this DVD is 10 times better than that DVD! This is the first authorized release of the Bad tour on DVD in honor of the 25th anniversary of that album taped from Wembley Stadium in the summer of 1988 with Princess Diana attending. The non HD 80's video quality does not take away from such a brilliant performance of a master at the peak of his performing prowless. The video is restored to the best of its ability, the sound is mixed amazingly and no fast camera shots on the crowd or much loud crowd noise overdubs like Budapest only focusing on MJ with great camera work and clear vocals and music. This is the MJ live DVD that us diehard fans have been waiting on and are so happy that this was found by the estate with it being released and to be enjoyed by all generations of fans for years to come. This is definitely a must buy for not just MJ fans like me, but also lovers of all music and those who want to see a dynamic performance... 5/5 Zak - See all my reviews, September 17, 2012
