These were but a few of Americas first immigrants. This is their story.
About this book
In 1653, lower Manhattan was a Dutch community of about 120 houses, its people protected by a fort and a log wall which stood as a defense against Indian attacks. Today's Wall Street follows the line of that ancient plank wall. Sheriff Resolved Waldron, his wife, Tennake, and their three children lived at the present day crossing of Wall Street and Broadway. There along with them on Block B, across the street from the Dutch West India Company's enormous garden, resided Augustine Herrman, Peter Schaefbanck, the jailor, Hendrick Hendricksen, and Domine (clergy) Samuel Drisius. These were but a few of Americas first immigrants. This is their story.

Manhattan Toy Winkel
Toy (Manhattan Toy)
List Price: $14.00
Great for developing two handed play
It is odd to rate the 'educational' value of this toy. It won't make your kid do calculus. But our baby started playing with this toy when he was about 12 weeks old. He was born 6 weeks premature, but because of his interest in this toy he developed two-handed play (an early developmental milestone) well ahead of time.I could see that perhaps an older child might not find this engaging enough, but our son still enjoys playing with it and chewing on it now as a 7 month old.PROS:The slim flexible bands make this much easier for early grasping than many things sold as rattles, which are too fat for young, small, clumsy hands to grasp. The rattle sound is not so loud as to be deafening or obnoxiousIt can be refrigerated for teething. Again, the slim rings fit into his small mouth so much better than many of the large bulky teethers. He has a teether that he cant yet grasp and manipulate for himself because it is so bulky. Plus,... 5/5 Erin Mcdonnell (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews, September 1, 2009Baby Loves This Toy
We got this toy as a gift from our friends and our baby loves it. He is 3 months old and finds this toy really easy to grab. The rings are squishy and thin so there are many places to grab hold. He can put his entire hand through it and use his arm to get it to his mouth. It's also large enough for him to grab it with both hands easily. He'll also shake it. It's definitely his favorite toy and it keeps his attention. 4/5 H-Dog (Alhambra, CA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Manhattan Toy Winkel (Baby Product) We got this toy as a gift from our friends and our baby loves it. I was really excited to get this toy for my daughter, because all the reviews were so positive. The toy got dirty so I washed it in some soapy water, this is when it bled green dye all over the wash cloth. If it's bleeding dye from a little soap, who knows how much dye my little one could ingest when she's chewing on it... Needless to say I threw it out. 4/5 Kim - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) More Than 30 Years Later, Still Woody's True Masterpiece
In 1979, Woody had the burden of trying to capture the "originality" of "Annie Hall," the Oscar-winning Best Picture of 1977.So when "Manhattan" was released, Woody's first "true" widescreen picture (so much so that Woody insisted this film NEVER be released on video or shown on television without the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen), I wasn't quite sure what to expect.I discovered that "Manhattan" had a completely different tone than "Annie Hall." It was more serious, but still hilarious. I became so enraptured by its themes, its music and its atmosphere that I felt, until I saw "Schindler's List" in late 1993, that I had witnessed something that comes along only once or twice a generation...and that's true greatness on film. I paid to see "Manhattan" at least four times during its initial run in 1979. I had never done this before, even when I include those popcorn pictures I had seen several times put out by Spielberg and Lucas during the... 5/5 David Kusumoto (San Diego, CA United States) - See all my reviews, November 14, 2001Magical, dreamy, spectacular, perfect
No matter how many times I watch this piece of heavan, I still get teary at the line "you gotta have a little faith in people..." This is a movie with so much beauty and depth, humor and poignant romanticism. I can even accept Issac's (Woody Allen) older man/young girl romance ( and usually I am annoyed by the prevalance of this type of pairing in so many movies ) because to me ,the endearing Tracy, (Mariel Hemingway so SO wonderful here) represents the tender spirit of love, the open heart that simply feels what it feels. She is the point on which the movie pivots, with her sweet goodness and simple message of emotional purity in contrast to the over analysis the other older characters give love. There are so many levels on which to appreciate this movie. I could try to analyze it in words (as Woody and his complex, terrific cast of characters analyze their lives and loves...) but instead, I have to just tell you all with FEELING: Visit this film, the... 5/5 Lawrance M. When Woody Allen won the Oscar (in abstentia) for writing and directing "Annie Hall," which also won the Oscar for Best Picture, it was assumed the stand-up comic turned auteur had reached the pinnacle of his career. Then Allen proceeded to go out and make an even better film with his next effort, "Manhattan." Filmed in glorious black & white (and widescreen) by the great cinematographer Gordon Willis, the opening sequence combining indelible images of New York City with Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" is a paean to city Allen loves and the most rhapsodical sequence in any of his films.Rather than talking about the plot per se, "Manhattan" is best explained as a convoluted series of wrecked and ruined relationships centering around Allen's character, Isaac Davis. Isaac is divorced from Jill (Meryl Streep), who is now living with Connie (Karen Ludwig), and planning to write an expose on her marriage. Isaac is having an affair with... 5/5 0, October 6, 2002 -

Manhattan Toy Color Burst Winkel in a Box
Baby Product (Manhattan Toy)
List Price: $14.49
Great First toy!
I heard about the Winkel on a message board for new mothers and thought I would give it a go. I absolutely love it! (or should I say he LOVES it!!) I gave it to my son when he was about 3 months old, around the time he was just learning to grasp for things. It is so easy to get a hold of it was great for building his skills and actually enjoying being able to grab it and get it in his mouth! He is about 5 months old now and I don't see him growing out of it any time soon! 5/5 Stewball - See all my reviews = Durability:, April 22, 2010Amazing!
I purchased one of these for my 5 month old twins as they have different toy preferences. I had to order a second one because they both love the winkel so much. They were actually stealing the toy away from each other. It's great to chew on, shake and just stare at. I don't think I could recommend a toy more! 5/5 Lucyskybiscuits - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I sat through the movie and loved the music. Couldn't wait to get the soundtrack. I should have known better. When you watch the movie and hear 43 seconds of a Gershwin song in the background, that's all you get on the CD. Many of the "songs" on the CD are less than a minute long. Manhattan Toy Skwish Classic
Toy (Manhattan Toy)
List Price: $14.99
Fun until it BROKE while my baby was playing with it!
We loved this toy. I was worried at first that it could be a choking hazard with the small beads and elastic string, but I figured Manhattan Toy is a respected company and they must have gone through rigorous testing first, right? However, last week my son was playing with this in the car and one of the wooden rods broke, causing the elastic to snap and a bead to fall off.I wanted to give Manhattan Toy the benefit of the doubt - maybe this is just a fluke somehow - but they have failed to respond to both a call and an email. I am very disappointed, and do NOT recommend this toy for your baby. It just isn't safe. 1/5 Maria Whitehead "tinkgumby" (Fort Worth, Texas United States) - See all my reviews, May 23, 2011This Toy Rocks!

The other reviewers are right when they say this is perfect for little hands to hold and little mouths to nibble. When my son was playing with it a few weeks ago he suddenly started crying his "I'm hurt" cry. I couldn't find anything wrong with him so I just chalked it up to teething pain. Well, it just happened again and to my horror I noticed a drop of blood on his bib. This toy somehow gave him a cut on his lip, poor thing. Maybe it got caught between the elastic bands or between a band and one of the balls. I now realize that it must have hurt him the first time, too. Twice is two times too many, so this toy is going in the trash. It's a shame because he really liked it, until it hurt him. 3/5 Concerned mama (New York City) - See all my reviews = Durability:, March 8, 2010

Manhattan Murder Mystery
DVD (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment)
List Price: $14.99
Wonderful mix of Murder, Mistery and Comedy
Diane Keaton and Woody Allen make quick friends with an older couple. After the woman dies of a heart attack, Diane Keaton starts investigating on her own thinking that it was not a heart attack afterall. Woody on the other end does not believe in this murder idea and thinks his wife is getting too excited for no reason. The movie mixes great suspense and comedy. The skepticism of woody allen and the wild (but maybe not so wild) imagination of diane keaton make for highly entertaining dialogues. The new york atmosphere of the movie is quite lovely too. The story moves fast and as Diane Keaton discovers more and more clues you find yourself seating on the edge of your seat wondering what next is going to happen. This movie is wonderfull all the way to the end that parodies the ending of an old movie classic. 5/5 Babeur (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Manhattan Murder Mystery (DVD) Diane Keaton and Woody Allen make quick friends with an older couple. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , February 28, 2004So long, Mia. Hello, Keaton.
After the abrasive brilliance of "Husbands and Wives", Woody wisely lightened up and reteamed with two of his old partners-in-crime, Diane Keaton and writing partner Marshall Brickman. What's amazing is that though the movie seems rather lightweight on the surface, it really juggles a lot of different ideas at once. It is a comedy crime caper, but it toys with the idea that Keaton is imagining the whole thing in an effort to spice up a humdrum marriage. Does Alan Alda's character find the possibility of a murder tantalizing, or does he simply see it as a great way to get closer to Keaton? Does Anjelica Huston's character find the possibility of a murder tantalizing, or does she simply see it as a great way to get closer to Woody? Or both? The only sure thing is Woody, who reminds us that, aside from everything else, he's an absolutely peerless comic actor. He goes from being skeptical and annoyed at Keaton's obsession, to gradually escalating levels of fear, fear of both the... 4/5 Daniel Fineberg (Northridge, California USA) - See all my reviews, December 1, 2003One of Allen's Best. A Perfect Little Film.
Woody Allen's love of New York City really shines through in this comic caper about a pair of aging but sophisticated Manhattanites who suspect their neighbor of murdering his wife. Actually, it is Keaton's character who suspects; Allen plays the doubting and timid husband who gets dragged into her amateur investigation, if only to save his marriage. Keaton is looking to add excitement to her life; Allen, as usual, is perfectly comfortable with how things are. Their interaction is very, very funny, as is the sweet performance by Alan Alda as a family friend and writer who dreams of opening a restaurant with Keaton (who he has always had a crush on. Can we blame him!), and Angelica Huston as a cool and sexually provocative writer whose book Allen is editing. By the end, all four have joined in a wacky plot to catch the killer. We also hear some great music and see a side of New York City as only Allen's eye for charm can capture it. 5/5 0, January 15, 1999 -

I has a chance to review a preview set, and I see a number of meaningful changes in this edition:- GMAT Roadmap and IR books are now included with this set, making it a total of 10 books- The Quant books have been improved in terms of layout and structure (though content is mostly the same)- The Verbal books have undergone a pretty significant improvement in terms of content (still analyzing the changes; check back in a few days for complete analysis)- Now the series start with Fractions/Decimals/Percents, then go into Algebra, Word Problems, Geometry, and Number Properties. (I feel this is a good improvement - first, it is getting rid of some of the strange names MGMAT used and second, Number Properties was a pretty tough book to use as the first step)If you are just starting out with GMAT prep - get this bundle; it's a good deal for the Manhattan GMAT Guides (separately they cost close to $150). I created my amazon account just to be able to express my thanks and review this product. The Manhattan GMAT series is very thorough, expanding on all the relevant concepts to an appropriate level of depth. Studying for 7-9 weeks on a daily basis (approx. 2 hours/day) allowed me to raise my initial practice score results of around 640 to around 740. The questions on the final exam are comparable and I managed to hit 730. I'm sure I couldn't have done this without these books which were much more helpful than the more simple Kaplan alternatives. If you have time to invest in studying the GMAT (1-3 months), buy this set along with the 13th edition official guide (which you NEED to answer the end of section questions of Manhattan). 5/5 AK89 - See all my reviews This review is from: Manhattan GMAT Complete Strategy Guide Set, 5th Edition (Manhattan Gmat Strategy Guides: Instructional Guide) (Paperback) I created my amazon account just to be able to express my thanks and review this product. I recently purchased the Manhattan guides from amazon on the recommendation of a colleague. I found them to be very helpful, and decided to register for a local live Manhattan GMAT class as a result of the purchase. Here is the catch- Manhattan GMAT forces you to purchase the books along with the class. They will grant you a waiver if you already own the books, however YOU MUST PURCHASE THE BOOKS DIRECTLY FROM MANHATTAN GMAT TO QUALIFY FOR A WAIVER. If you order from amazon, you will save money up front but realize you will be forced to pay for the books again should you later decide to get additional prep through Manhattan GMAT. Of course, there is no documentation of this policy anywhere on the Manhattan GMAT website, but they magically expect you to know it. 2/5 Nathan (Claremont, CA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Manhattan Toy Snuggle Pod, Sweet Pea
Baby Product (Manhattan Toy)
List Price: $17.99
Why isn't this more popular?!
I bought this for my daughter. The textures on this plush toy are really sweet for a little one. When taken out of her "snuggle pod" the baby girl is wearing pink bunting and has a couple of short ribbons on the top of her head for locks, which is great for more than aesthetic appeal since babies and small children love tags and ribbons. This is just adorable, interesting, and very well made. 5/5 Amber Chaib "Not your mainstream mom" (Portland, OR USA) - See all my reviews, February 7, 2007Fabulous toy - also available as "Snuggle Pods Peanut" (more masculine)
My <1 yr daughter received this doll (really more like a stuffed animal) as a gift. She loves it and takes it with her everywhere. This toy is easy for a young child to hold, but big enough to hug, too. Although the tag says to just sponge the surface, I have put this toy in the wash several times and it has come out nicely and air-dried quickly (note that I have only washed the "doll" itself, and not the green "pod", which my daughter doesn't use). I highly recommend this toy, and would purchase it for others. For those concerned that the pastel colors of this toy are too girl-oriented, the "Snuggle Pods Peanut" is the same thing but in primary colors that may please parents of both boys anad girls. 5/5 Susa (West Hartford, CT) - See all my reviews = Durability:, August 31, 2007purchased as christmas gifts for two small kids.... will be perfect for their age.
this product was exactly what I was looking for. The kids they were purchased for are both under one year of age and this toy has no parts that could be considered dangerous to their well being. I was very pleased with this product and would recommend it for any child under the age of 5. 5/5 M. Catherine Copeland "mikencat02" (WV, USA) - See all my reviews, December 12, 2007
