interonline2010 Niagara Falls is a group of large waterfalls that are located in the Niagara river on the eastern coast of the United States and Canada. They are located on the border between the two countries, and are composed of three waterfalls. These three waterfalls are the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and the Horseshoe Falls. While these waterfalls are not very high, they are quite wide. Over 5 million cubic feet of water will fall down in a single minute. It is one of the most popular waterfalls in the world, and is the most powerful in the North American continent.

Niagara Falls is a well known site that is a popular tourist attraction. In addition to this, Niagara Falls is known for the hydroelectric power it provides, and the spot was chosen as potential source of power by Nikola Tesla, the famous inventor. A memorial has also been built for him at the site. The three waterfalls are shared by three cities, and these are Niagara Falls, Ontario, and the dual cities of Niagara Falls, New York. It is believed that Niagara Falls formed during a period that is called the Wisconsin glaciation, a period that ended over 9,000 years ago. The Wisconsin glaciation was a large glacier that connected the area with Canada.

The glacier would have moved through the area, crushing surfaces in order to form lakes or rivers. Niagara Falls has a height of about 170 feet, though the American Falls is only about 70 feet. The Canadian Falls are much larger, and have a height of about 2,600 feet. During the best seasons, the amount of water flow will be well over 200,000 cubic feet per second. The word "Niagara" was taken from the Iroquois language, and it can be translated into "strait." The Ongiara were the natives in the area, and were known for settling disputes among the various tribes in the region. Niagara Falls has been visited by a number of historical figures, and one of them was Jerome Bonaparte, the brother of Napoleon Bonaparte.

vsaul Niagara Falls is located on the Niagara River, about 25 kilometers north west of Buffalo, New York. The Niagara River flows out of the Lake Erie, draining four of the Great Lakes into Lake Ontario. About midway on its 58 kilometer course, the swift water surges forward and lunges over the edge of a high cliff-Niagara Falls.
Actually, Niagara Falls consist of two cataracts-the Horseshoe, or Canadian, Falls and American Falls. About 94 percent of Niagara's waters, or some 317,000,000 liters, flows over the deeply curved Horseshoe Falls every minute.

    Nice Guide

If you are looking for a guide with a lot of photos, this is not for you. But if you want a guide that gives great tips on places to stay, eat, and see...this is that guide. Included is a lot of history of the area, especially the wine region, which I found interesting. There are nice maps of Niagara Falls, Ontario and the surrounding towns. There are suggested iteneraries for one, two, or three days trips. I found a lot of good money saving tips such as where to buy multi-attraction passes, and the fact that there are a lot of taxes added to restaurant bills (thats good information when you are expecting one price and its 25% higher due to the taxes!). I also appreciated that there were tips about attractions that were "overrated" so that I wont spend time or money on those places. We are going to visit this area in June and this is the book I intend to take, it has helped us make decisions on what to see and do during our time there. 4/5 RT "RapidCityMom" (South Dakota, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Thanks Frommer's! #1 bestselling Travel Guide series in the USA

I thank myself for all the searching I did to find a book like this on amazon.com. This is probably the bestselling book devoted to Niagara Falls which is from a well-known travel guide series.272 pages is without contradiction enough to satisfy me. Even though this book mostly covers the Canada side, that's where most of the tourists go to, not just because of the Horseshoe Falls, but also because of better hotels and more attractions. As with all regularly updated Frommer's travel guides, it covers all the information necessary, both integral and interesting. These sections include:Restaurants with their average meal price;Information on the excessively high Niagara Falls (Canada side) restaurant tax, which many tourists don't realize until they feel the pinch on their wallets when they notice taxes usually add at least 15-20% to the subtotal, what to expect in a prime tourist area;Tips on money-saving attraction passes,... 5/5 Thomas Seymour (CHALFONT, PENNSYLVANIA, US) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) A Grandmothers Point of View

This book is "a must read" book for all ages. In this extremely entertaining story you are very apt to recognize some child you know. As a young reader you may gain a better understanding of a friend with a learning disability. If you have a learning disability, you may identify with Hank and his problems and realize you are not alone. Adults will grasp the feelings of a youngster with reading, writing and spelling problems. I highly recommend this book, along with its sequel, "I Got a D in Salami" and look forward to more adventures of Hank Zipzer. 5/5 Eunice Spooner (Sidney, ME USA) - See all my reviews, May 20, 2003

    Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a ten year old student reporter, I had the honor of interviewing Henry and Lin at a writing conference in Los Angeles. I have read the first three books in this series and look forward to reading all of them. These books are hysterical and moving. As a girl with (around) a twelfth grade reading level, I mostly don't read books as easy as this. But all in all I loved all three. I have read them each about three or four times. Don't you just love the last name "Zipzer"? Anyway, these three books are totally awesome, I will keep on reading them for the rest of my life. As soon as you finish reading this review, buy the Hank Zipzer books. It is worth it. Also, in case you didn't know, Henry Winkler is dyslexic so when you buy his books about a dyslexic boy in many ways you are supporting him. All he wants is for kids to not have to go through what he did as a child. P.S. I didn't mean to sound as if I was bragging before. 5/5 Tania (Cave Creek, Arizona) - See all my reviews This review is from: Niagara Falls, Or Does It? #1 (Hank Zipzer) (Paperback) As a ten year old student reporter, I had the honor of interviewing Henry and Lin at a writing conference in Los Angeles. Hooray for the Fonz!

Normally, I don't bother reading children's books written by celebrities, but this series of books is funny, lighthearted, and full of the nonsensical humor of the Fonz. In the beginning he describes his 4th grade hero, Hank, as the "world's best underachiever." Hank abhors school essays, so instead of writing about Niagara Falls, he builds a working model of the falls and brings it to class for show and tell. The resulting disaster lands him in the Principal's office. According to the authors Winkler and Oliver, "The hall is a only place when you're sitting outside the Principal's office."This book is ideal for readers aged 8-10. It uses silly, irreverent, classroom humor to tell the story of a young boy who enlists the aid of his classmates to keep him out of trouble. This is one book in a series of similar stories, and promises good reading for both parents and elementary school kids. As an aspiring writer for children (Abby and the Bicycle Caper), I found this book... 5/5 Ron Atkins "Ron" (California) - See all my reviews This review is from: Niagara Falls, Or Does It? #1 (Hank Zipzer) (Paperback) Normally, I don't bother reading children's books written by celebrities, but this series of books is funny, lighthearted, and full of the nonsensical humor of the Fonz. Fun early chapter book read

Geronimo wants to impress his nephew's pretty teacher, and invites the entire class to a field trip to Niagara Falls. The trip turns out to be quite an adventure: the kids are a handful, Geronimo has to set up camp (with a little long-distance help from his more adventurous sister Thea), and even has to rescue a kid that falls in the river! After all that trouble to impress his love interest, she finds and marries her long-lost love!Geronimo Stilton series is a good transitional reading between picture books and chapter books. The narrative is broken into easy to read chapters, and interspersed with fun typography accents that break the text into more manageable chunks and also encourage "expressive reading". The book is richly illustrated and appealing to the eye. Fun story as well! My daughter loves Geronimo Stilton books and is venturing into reading them on her own. 5/5 Vanessa Maine (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Field Trip to Niagara Falls (Geronimo Stilton, No. 24) (Paperback) Geronimo wants to impress his nephew's pretty teacher, and invites the entire class to a field trip to Niagara Falls. One of Mother Nature's most amazing treasures

PBS presents a fascinating look at Niagara Falls in this hour long program and doesn't leave much to the imagination in its amount of detail. Beginning with an early history lesson, the Native Americans were the first to inhabit the land around the falls and they eventually guided European explorers to this region. The entire area is actually comprised of three sets of waterfalls fed from four of the five great lakes with the American and Bridal Veil Falls on the United States side and Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side.In the successive years to come, Niagara Falls became a place for individuals to test their courage or maybe reveal their lunacy. Quite a few performed audacious high wire acts while several others launched themselves over the cascades in a variety of barrels. As the world's first source of hydroelectric power, Niagara Falls became famous in this capacity along with their generating stations being the first ever in history to send... 5/5 Kyle Tolle (Phoenix, Arizona USA) - See all my reviews, August 29, 2007

    PBS vs HC Niagara Falls

This was a good experience for general informtion regarding Niagara Falls however a little too much local color - all the songs, one would really have been enough, free publicity aside these people have little to no talent and certainly do nothing to promote tourism. The competing HC is far more informative,is an easier view, no hype just the natural drama of the area itself so much more inviting PBS effort is good but HC is 5 star also PBS broadcasted different shows of Niagara and this DVD is not the better of the two the other was closer to History Channels version given the choice I would never have bothered with this PBS version and intend to resell it or donate it to local library it soesn't deserve space in a private collection 3/5 the raven (usa) - See all my reviews This review is from: Niagara Falls (DVD) This was a good experience for general informtion regarding Niagara Falls however a little too much local color - all the songs, one would really have been enough, free publicity aside these people have little to no talent and certainly do nothing to promote tourism.
