About this book
A native of the Northwest, Douglas Lorain spends more than 150 days each year hiking Oregon's trails. The author of several outdoor guidebooks to the region, Lorain's scenic photographs have been published in numerous magazines, calendars, and books. Not one to be deterred from the great outdoors, in his lifetime Lorain has hiked more than 32,000 miles, and has been charged by a grizzly bear, bitten by a rattlesnake, and shot at by a hunter while on the trail. He lives in Portland, OR. What makes a trail a classic hike? Outstanding scenery, says Doug Lorain, especially good views. Add in mountain lakes and waterfalls. Sprinkle with wildflowers, old-growth forests, wildlife sightings, and interesting geologic features. All of the hikes Lorain has selected boast at least two of these attributes, and often more. These are simply the best hikes the state of Oregon has to offer. Lorain should know; he's logged more than 16,000 Oregon hiking miles in his boots. In the 2nd edition of 100 Classic Hikes: Oregon Lorain presents a mix of the most popular trails and lesser-known gems throughout the entire state, including 9 brand new hikes. Trailheads are easily accessible; trails are well established. They range from short, easy strolls suitable for children and grandparents to longer backpacking trips for experienced hikers.

    Good product, slightly improved

I owned the predecessor to this packable day pack -- saw it several years ago in a well known bookstore in Portland Oregon and bought it on the spot. Since then, I've retired all my various messenger bags, backpacks, briefcases, etc. in favor of this extremely lightweight, packable day pack. It has held up well over about 3 years, despite nearly daily use and over-packing. Nothing has really failed -- there are a few spots where friction on a sidewalk or wall wore some small holes when it hit the dirt with a full load, but its fairly good quality ripstop nylon, so the holes are small and not a concern.I bought the new version because a disintegrating chocolate bar left inside in the heat is going to require some major cleaning. The latest version is slightly improved -- the back pocket (which is slightly smaller than the old version) now has a straight across zipper. The old pocket had a U-shaped zipper that you had to meticulously close at the risk of having things drop... 5/5 Rarkm "rarkm" (Camp Hill, PA USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Little Pack for Travel

For years I've taken a light 8-oz 12"x16"x6" Wilderness Experience pack with me on trips as a convenient day pack capable of being rolled up and stored in carry-on luggage. This size is just right for carrying an extra camera lens for my SLR, and adding in a light jacket, lunch, and a pocket umbrella. I've been unsuccessful in trying to replace my 30-year-old pack until recently, when I discovered the Eagle Creek Packable Daypack. It's an exact match in size (12"x16"x6") and has a similar 6"x7" single outer pocket for knickknacks like spare SD cards and camera batteries, lens filters, and small camera accessories. What's better, the Eagle Creek pack only weighs 6 1/2 oz, yet it's very well made of modestly-heavy black nylon fabric with dual high-quality metal-pull Nylon-tooth zippers. I just returned from 5 weeks in India using it every day while touring temples and museums. I found my old pack (same size) also perfect for trekking in Nepal when the porters had our main luggage... 5/5 R. Ross "Engineer" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews, February 13, 2011

    Tiny backpack

0 4/5 Bright Star "Bright Star" (USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Bug Mini Backpack RFID (Sports) Before making this purchase you must be fully aware that this is a really small backpack, and the straps are not padded. If you try to fit in an iPad like others did, you will find this backpack becomes increasingly uncomfortable. I use this with other crossbody bag interchangeably when traveling. I don't want to carry a lot (or force myself to stop carrying all the junk with me) so this fits the bill. I like the safety features, but cannot figure out why EG decided to keep the loop hole on the side when there's really no need for it like in the previous versions. Overall this bag is good for carrying a could of small items and not for holding a lot.Although happy with my purchase, I took one star off for the price. At $70 it is certainly over priced. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 25, 2014

0 4/5 HAL (San Jose, CA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Bug Mini Backpack RFID (Accessory) I have the full size version of this bag and I love it! Bought this bug version as a small bag to carry tickets/passports and a tablet on short flights and city tours. This bag is very tiny and would be perfect for a small child. I can't believe I paid $70 for this though, which is why I gave it 4/5 stars. Wait until the price drops to $30-40 or just get the full size version to get more bang for your buck. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 21, 2014

Works for me, but note the dimensions!

First of all, I love Eagle Creek products: good quality, lots of nice details. They've been in the business of making good travel/carrying gear for a long time and it shows.I bought this for the current-gen iPad and was not terribly careful noting the dimensions. I think saying there's a space for the water bottle on the side is a bit misleading: there's no way any sized bottle fits in there, and once you have that as a baseline for the rest of the size, you might make the same mistake I did and think it's a bit larger than it is.It is *just large enough* for an iPad, and frankly the interior pocket is not quite large enough to fit 8 1/2x11" sheet of paper. (I had to carry a handful of papers and had to trim the folder carrying them down to exactly the paper size, including cutting off the tab and slicing off the top/sides. The folder/papers still gets bent in the corners and I have to shake and adjust the folder in the bag to make sure it's sitting all the... 4/5 Vernon Lee (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews, February 1, 2013

Cute cute bag .. Commented by flight attendant

I bought one bug bag from eagle creek and use it quite daily to put one umbrella , 6" Sony reader , and my purse .My colleagues complimented it as its so small when i carry behind my back , nobody will notice i'm carrying a bag with because the bag is so tiny. When my mom saw my bag , she loves it so much that she requested me to buy one for her . Since I seldom see her as she stay quite far away from my own family , I decided to give her mine .We went traveling together to Australia , she carry it out proudly putting her umbrella, a water bottle (Tupperware 500ml) and her sweater. She loves it and it suits her as its a black color. The bug bag I gave to my mom has discontinued so I ordered this new series . The size is the same but this new one suits me better because it did not have the line zipper at the front , but have a bigger compartment similar to the bigger eagle creek bag that you can zip. The older one has 2 compartment which is very... 4/5 Kkysnoopy - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Perfect!

0 5/5 Terri G - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Luggage Travel Bug Backpack (Apparel) This is a smaller than average-sized backpack, which is perfect for carrying all day long, while still fitting a ton of stuff! Used this on a 2-week trip in Italy and it held everything I needed for sightseeing throughout the day. Fellow travelers couldn't believe how many things I carried in this bag. Here's an example of what I carried one day: Sony RX100 camera, 2 pairs of sunglasses (both in cases), 2 rolled up rain jackets, iPhone, flashlight, umbrella, passports, money, credit card, pen, tissue packet, chapstick, and a small bag of daily vitamins. It held the iPad very well, though I wasn't carrying it during the day. Also, I could fit a 16.9oz water bottle in the side pocket. The security toggle for the zipper is a great feature. Definitely recommend this backpack! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 21, 2013

    Awesome

0 5/5 Jessica Showalter - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Gear 2-In-1 Backpack Duffel (Sports) This is a really nice bag. I am going to use it on a trip to Italy. It folds up in to itself rather nicely and doesn't take up a lot of space. It is also lightweight. It holds quite a bit when packed full. It is very convenient to take empty and bring back full! The materials all seem very durable. I will update this review if I have any future problems with the bag or it's durability. But so far, it's been good! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 16, 2014

0 4/5 Marie - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Gear 2-In-1 Backpack Duffel (Accessory) It is my fault for not reading the dimensions carefully before I bought this item, but it is REALLY SMALL. Yes, I get that the lightness and the small size is the idea behind the bag, but I bought this for my boyfriend and it looks like a child's bag on him. This is probably only good for a smaller person. It's a nice bag and I'm going to use it instead of him, so just know that this is not for a big man. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 10, 2014
