About this book
A native of the Northwest, Douglas Lorain spends more than 150 days each year hiking Oregon's trails. The author of several outdoor guidebooks to the region, Lorain's scenic photographs have been published in numerous magazines, calendars, and books. Not one to be deterred from the great outdoors, in his lifetime Lorain has hiked more than 32,000 miles, and has been charged by a grizzly bear, bitten by a rattlesnake, and shot at by a hunter while on the trail. He lives in Portland, OR. What makes a trail a classic hike? Outstanding scenery, says Doug Lorain, especially good views. Add in mountain lakes and waterfalls. Sprinkle with wildflowers, old-growth forests, wildlife sightings, and interesting geologic features. All of the hikes Lorain has selected boast at least two of these attributes, and often more. These are simply the best hikes the state of Oregon has to offer. Lorain should know; he's logged more than 16,000 Oregon hiking miles in his boots. In the 2nd edition of 100 Classic Hikes: Oregon Lorain presents a mix of the most popular trails and lesser-known gems throughout the entire state, including 9 brand new hikes. Trailheads are easily accessible; trails are well established. They range from short, easy strolls suitable for children and grandparents to longer backpacking trips for experienced hikers.

    NOT EAGLE CREEK QUALITY

0 1/5 Nancy S. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Gear Packable Daypack (Accessory) The original design daypack was wonderful!!! I bought 3 of them, 1 for me, 1 for my husband, and we liked it so much that I bought 1 more and gave it to my friend. I wanted another to keep "ready-to-go" for daytrips to parks and canoeing, so I ordered this one, the new design. IT IS TERRRIBLE!! The fabric is heavier and bulkier, the pocket has been moved to an odd location where the items in it would make them stick out, but the worst change has been the straps. THE STRAPS ARE NO LONGER A 1-PIECE, UPSIDE-DOWN U-SHAPE, BUT NOW THEY ARE 2 SEPARATE, SKINNIER, LOWER QUALITY STRAPS THAT CONTINUALLY SLIP OFF OF YOUR SHOULDERS WHEN YOU ARE WEARING IT!!! I am sending this back, very disappointed, will try to find another brand pack. We have a lot of Eagle Creek gear, but this bag falls way short. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 22, 2015

0 2/5 Jennifer - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Gear Packable Daypack (Accessory) Bought to take around Europe for day excursions while cruising in Europe. I bought this and several others to see which I would keep. I did not chose this one, as it looked kind of bulky and crumpled when I put it on. Plus I wanted a water holder. Went back. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 3, 2015

0 5/5 Janna Lawson - See all my reviews This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Gear Packable Daypack (Accessory) This bag is really cool! It all flips back into the front outside pocket for easy storage and is great for traveling or keeping in your purse in case you need a bigger bag on the fly. It's also decently big when unfolded (and really easy to get back into the pouch - just stuff it!); plenty of room for a laptop, DSLR, snacks, water and wallet/passport/phone/keys/etc. It has lock loops on the zipper to the main compartment so it can be secured if you're walking in a busy place or taking it on a plane. It's made out of pretty thin material, so I wouldn't cram it full of tons of heavy stuff or anything, but I think it'll hold up fine for use on my travels. The straps seem pretty comfy, too, though I haven't used it with a full load yet.All in all, an excellent little pack that I imagine will get lots of use! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 4, 2014

0 5/5 Kaitlin Vortherms - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Luggage Digi Hauler Backpack (Accessory) I bought this bag for my couple week backpacking trip in Europe and I loved it! I almost caved and brought my rolly bag but this was significantly easier to maneuver through the European streets (We did a lot of walking), comfortable and it fit a lot! This was the only bag I brought and was able to fit everything I needed. Glad I bought it, it will be useful for my future travels. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 14, 2013

Great Backpack for a Few Weeks Traveling in Europe or Asia

0 5/5 Vampire Architect - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Luggage Digi Hauler Backpack (Accessory) Just the right size for traveling light and fast through Europe or Asia. It's lightweight and fairly sturdy although the top compression strap sheared from it's stitchings after only a week. Other than that the bag held up really well for three weeks in Thailand and Japan. It's compact enough to fit in most size plane overhead compartments or beneath the seat in front of you. It never needs to be checked baggage. It's comfortable to wear while hiking on the island of Koh Phi Phi in Thailand with a belt strap that helps take the load off your shoulders. I liked how you could stow away the straps when not in use like in hotel rooms instead of having the straps and belts hanging loose getting dirty or caught on everything. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 7, 2013

0 5/5 C4NON M4N "4Ever" (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Gear Universal Traveler Backpack RFID (Sports) Seems a little cheaper than my previous eagle creek gear. I think Velcro was used a little too liberally. The Velcro on the inside front pocket is quite annoying as it sticks to the inside lining. In terms of durability, It seems like it will hold up. I have high expectations for eagle creek, so it might take a few years to test the durability. I have taken it on two international journeys so far. I lived in India for two months and I commuted to work everyday with this back pack. It is the perfect size back pack in that it is small enough for daily activities, but it is also big enough to pack with all my electronic gear for longer journeys.Durability is the main reason I bought eagle creek. My last backpack lasted through 8 years of everyday use. This backpack's construction is lighter weight than my previous backpack, so we will see if it holds up. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 30, 2014

A travel backpack, not a business case strapped to your back.

A very good, roomy pack. I looked only at packs that fit over my rolling luggage when I didn't want it on my back. Victorinox Big Ben, Briggs Clamshell, and Hartman all make an excellent product, but they were stiff and, although well suited for business needs, were too compartmentalized, possess a high profile and are too rigid for my travel needs. Tumi backpacks, also excellent, were either too small or too segmented. I wanted something with a large central pocket, soft so that it looked less imposing when walking around, with with some organizational features like a key chain, small pockets for electonics and penholders. I also wanted something that looked good in the city, but would handle a hike. This backpack is well made, well designed, and opens for TSA inspection of a laptop without removal. I don't carry a laptop, but overseas, even an IPad is inspected. The price is $150-300 less then the other packs. The only negatives are 1) the anterior organizing pocket extends... 4/5 J. Tiny backpack

0 4/5 Bright Star "Bright Star" (USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Bug Mini Backpack RFID (Sports) Before making this purchase you must be fully aware that this is a really small backpack, and the straps are not padded. If you try to fit in an iPad like others did, you will find this backpack becomes increasingly uncomfortable. I use this with other crossbody bag interchangeably when traveling. I don't want to carry a lot (or force myself to stop carrying all the junk with me) so this fits the bill. I like the safety features, but cannot figure out why EG decided to keep the loop hole on the side when there's really no need for it like in the previous versions. Overall this bag is good for carrying a could of small items and not for holding a lot.Although happy with my purchase, I took one star off for the price. At $70 it is certainly over priced. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 25, 2014

0 5/5 Jessica Showalter - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Gear 2-In-1 Backpack Duffel (Sports) This is a really nice bag. I am going to use it on a trip to Italy. It folds up in to itself rather nicely and doesn't take up a lot of space. It is also lightweight. It holds quite a bit when packed full. It is very convenient to take empty and bring back full! The materials all seem very durable. I will update this review if I have any future problems with the bag or it's durability. 0 5/5 richard stringer - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Gear 2-In-1 Backpack Duffel (Sports) Wonderful product. Exactly what I was looking for. I am reluctant to check any luggage while on a flight and this, even when packed to the brim, comes in under most airlines carry on limits. Packed a week and a glad worth of clothes (rolled up) into this baby and still had enough room for sandals, a tablet, and external batter packs. My trip to tokyo was a success and I look forward to my trip to Italy in a couple months. Obviously this bag will be in tow. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 2, 2014

This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Gear 2-In-1 Backpack Duffel (Accessory) It is my fault for not reading the dimensions carefully before I bought this item, but it is REALLY SMALL. Yes, I get that the lightness and the small size is the idea behind the bag, but I bought this for my boyfriend and it looks like a child's bag on him. This is probably only good for a smaller person. It's a nice bag and I'm going to use it instead of him, so just know that this is not for a big man. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 10, 2014

Great bag. Capacity, quality, and design trump unlikelihood of ever being used as a backpack.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IT* Love the color. I bought the yellow one which is really easy to spot in the piles of everyone else's black luggage.* Love the configuration/design. Eagle Creek makes sensible choices about long-wearing vs. lightweight materials and positions the appropriately tough materials where wear will happen, and puts lighter materials where wear is less likely. Seems like a small thing, but this reduces the weight. Their products are so often up to a half pound or more lighter than comparable items from other manufacturers. Nice.* Extremely good quality. I have bought a lot of Eagle Creek products over the years and they wear like iron.WHAT BUGS ME ABOUT IT* BIG LOGO. Why oh WHY do they have to plaster their big logo so huge on their bags? I wish it was not silkscreened on so I could remove it, which is what I usually do with my bags. Not a fan of being a walking ad. Oh well.* Not really a backpack, but nice try... 4/5 Rebecca Shanks "rs" - See all my reviews This review is from: Eagle Creek Luggage 28-Inch Flip Switch Wheeled Backpack (Apparel) WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IT* Love the color. Nice luggage, but too large as a backpack

0 3/5 Jasdeep - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eagle Creek Luggage 28-Inch Flip Switch Wheeled Backpack (Sports) Good quality and nice idea and also comfortable to wear as a backpack, but better used as a rolling luggage because it is just too large for backpacking. I could see this bag being too large to fit in hostel lockers or under beds, and difficult to put in luggage storage on trains so I had to send mine back. It would also be too easy to overpack and go overweight, could easily put over 100 pounds in it. The 22 inch is small though, Eagle creek would benefit from making a bag that holds a volume somewhere between the 22 inch and 28 inch size. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 13, 2013
